Giving freebies - bug or stupidity?

First time out of the vault
I've only the second fallout, installed the official 1.02+ patch the way that was instructed, and both before and after all this I've not seen a single cent of the items I've been offering.

Also, my copy was packaged and doesn't seem to have an online manual to confirm if I'm missing something or not.
 
When you say 1.02+ you are referring to my unofficial patch, right?

Either way, never heard of this. Are you sure the patch is installed correctly?
 
Well I downloaded the UK version for 1.01 1.01 and moved all the files to the main fallout directory without installing the official 1.02. Nothing had to be deleted. Tried selling my spear to the temple guard in the beginning, and it only left me unarmed and penniless.

Er... if I'm understanding you correctly, you just put the spear in the trade box and clicked the Offer button yes? Which would explain the problem... you have to take something from the other person's inventory and stick in their trade box in order to trade for it. If their box is empty when you trade, then you're essentially just giving it to them. You never "sell" anything in Fallout, it's always barter. If you want money, you have to find someone with money and trade them for it.
 
Ok, sorry for the confusion. Thanks. Seems the only problem was in my own mind from a long history of item/money sales of other games.
