Good games to buy with christmas money

Dick Justice

First time out of the vault
I was just wondering, what would be some good games for the computer, PS2, and Gamecube.

What are the the minimum requirements for Doom 3.

I don't have too many PC games(all the Fallout series, HL2, UT2004, Jedi Academy, Max Payne, Mafia)and I mainly just want to buy some FPS and basically any games with gratuitous violence(GTA:SA). Thank you for your suggestions and I apologize if there's another thread like this.

Do you want "good games" or "FPS and basically any games with gratuitous violence"? Make up your mind already.

Here's a list of good games:

Knights of Honor
Rome: Total war
VtM: Bloodlines
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Heroes: Soldiers of WWII
Hearts of Iron Platinum
War in Pacific

As for others, I don't dabble into that category.

Operation Flashpoint... Mmmm... *drools*

[wise ass mode]And it's Soldiers: Heroes of WWII, not Heroes: Soldiers of WWII. I'd wait untill they release another patch or two before getting this game.[/wise ass mode]

Hearts of Iron Platinum

I'd hold out for HOI2 which should be along in january.

*edit*

hmm, maybe not. Now that I think about it, Paradox Entertainment has a bad habit of releasing games that aren't playable until six months later, when 4-5 patches has been released.

What is Hearts of Iron about
It's about you getting your ass kicked by an overwhelmingly more powerful country.

Bah, both the soviets and germans are super powerful.

The game simulates world war 2 and you can play as any of the sides including all the tiny worthless nations. Unfortuantely, the game is pretty blah unless you pick one of the super powers.

i just purchased with my christmas money bloodlines to run on my new radeon 9800. on lowest settings the game stutters like heck, unlike the doom3 demo or my other games which i manage to run on highest settings (albeit most of these are about a year old).

Please download the patch first
it won`t fix the stuttering though, at leat until there`s a new one with Valve`s fix

really? I've a geforce 5900 (roughly the same cards aye?) and the game runs beautifully. I've been really proud of my pc this xmas as it's handled Rome:TW and Vampire:Bloodlines (mine) and Half Life 2 (brothers) perfectly. Is another part of your computer lacking?

an 9800 (pro) should be better with the source engine than a 5900.

it'll probably depend on bugs or on the rest of his configuration. (maybe you've got a better CPU, more memory,...)

all i can say is that my comp ran D3, V:tM-B & HL2 just great with a 9800pro

Same here. Though after loading a complex area, such as the street, VtM stutters for up to ten seconds. It becomes smooth eventually, though.

That's the first thing I do. Always.
Even before installing my radeon i downloaded the latest catalyst drivers, and installed directly from them, rather than the CD which came with the card.

Postal2 is a kind of old game. It's a pretty funny game, not really gory. Not much replayability once you've seen all there is to see.
