Good idea or bad: Solving the 'Disappearing Armors' problem

I Must Be Crazy 2

First time out of the vault
I have no doubt that this is definitely doable. However, I hear that it may disturb game balance.

Basically, the premise is to add a corresponding suit of armor to the inventories of all critters that appear to be wearing a certain type of armor. For example, Joey and the punks in the Den would each have leather jackets in their inventories (only after you have killed them, of course). Lara's and Tyler's gangs would have metal armors that you could plunder when they die. Metzger and the Slavers Guild would have lootable Leather Armors. In random encounters, robbers and highwaymen would each have leather jackets that you could loot.

I would think that this could easily be accomplished by using the official Fallout2 Mapper to edit the inventories of those critters.

However, is this a good idea or a bad idea?

a) It's VERY time consuming... Damn there's a lot of people with armours...

b) It's just a bad idea... WAY too much stuff to sell...

I don't think the armor would work after being riddled with bullets anyway, that is probably the reason why these NPCs don't get any added to their inventory.

In the origional fallout you could nick armour from most or their bullet ridden bodies, but I though it was a bit stupid 'cause to kill the guy youd most probably have to shoot though the armour.

It makes sense that armors could be severely damaged by bullets, especially from Miniguns and the like at close range, but what if you killed the dude by cracking open his skull with one powerful swing of your BOS Super Sledgehammer?

Besides, while looking through the MAP files with the official FO2 editor, I discovered that both Little and Big Jesus Mordino have a combat leather jacket in their 'Armor slot' of their inventory. If you take it off, then they lose all resistances. Kill them and you can pick the armor right off their corpse. The same applies for Mason (metal armor MK2) and Corsican's b*tches (leather jacket).

So I wonder what makes these characters so special that their armor is basically indestructible? Or is it another patented Interplay bug?
