Google Maps Hilarity

If I type in the Swedish town where I am now and New York, it recommends I drive through Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgistania and France before hopping into the water at Le Havre. Apparently they're concerned that I couldn't make the swim from here.

Oh, Google. You are truly funny.

The strange thing is, if you try the reverse directions it's over 2000 miles extra to swim.

Effective distance is greater when you have to swim against the Gulf Stream. Duh.

Makes me remember of Fallout 2 when the computer at Navarro says there are thousands of ways to get to the Enclave but only two that are actually suitable, fly by vertibyrd and the tanker. Guess that computer is smarter than the google maps.

Even some enclave personnel says the only way to get there is by vertibyrd unless you take a swim all the way there (in a very ironic way), if I am not mistaken.

it's a joke...

do you expect googlemaps to book you a ticket on a cruise or a plane?

I know people have swan the channel but the Atlantic is pushing it a bit, showed this to my dad and he laughed his ass of.

Nope, not at all. Not a bit. In dreams.

Yet, the technology for that is actually available, I think. Booking tickets over the internet is becoming a common thing. I could actually think of a whole new way of profiting from the combined abilities a software like that could offer.

No, but would any of us have been surprised for a split second had it tried to give you a bunch of sponsored links for travel sites for trans-ocean map requests?

1. Leave house
2. Turn right at next intersection
3. End at JFK Airport
4. Buy tickets from Google Airlines* now!
5. Turn right on E05.
6. End trip at Paris, France.

but that'd involve choosing a flight or boat for you, which they wont do unless they get some serious $$$ for it from the provider ;)

Omg! Swim across the atlantic ocean? Lmfao!
people have done it before. (with a small raft though, so they could sleep, but no propellant or sail on it)

And that's where the profit comes in $$$.

Anyway, they could have just done something as simple as using the word 'travel' across the ocean instead of 'swim' across the ocean. Then you can assume is either by plane, boat or a darn spaceship instead of having to read such a ridiculous phrase.
