Looking forward to hearing if anyone else is still getting "invalid page fault in mss32.dll" after installing the single-player patch. Looks like there still may be a memory leak...? System resources are still being reduced on crash, anyway, and it happens towards the end of missions, starting with the first.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I was curious if it had to do with installing the bonus mission exe but it sounds like it may be more prevelant than that. Makes it a real bitch to play tough guy style when it always crashes at the end of the mission.

hrm, perhaps its....

I did a bit of poking, and discovered that mss32.dll is a sound driver (?). for the Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio. I have a SB awe 64 sound card, just for reference. I've switched the sound option to Dolby Surround, and played through my first mission EVER with no crashes. WHEW! So I don't have any idea what the Miles driver is, but if you see mss32.dll crashes, change this setting and then quit the game (options aren't saved until you quit, apparently).

Have fun!

argh.

No, I got about 1 1/2 missions further before a crash this time, so it took longer, but still

"Bos has caused an error in MSS32.DLL
Bos will now close."

this is driving me nuckin futs, so if anyone knows a fix, I'd really appreciate it. guess I'll drop a line to microforte while I'm at it.

Meanwhile, after further investigation, it seems that mss32 may be the library that all sound is built on, not JUST the Miles fast option. MSS stands for Miles Sound System.

I just now got the crash with 'No 3d sound' option selected (for the 2nd time, right after a big encounter I forgot to save after AGAIN), so thbpthpthbthh to this for now, I'm gonna go read a book.

I'll try the other 2 sound options just to make sure, but it looks like it doesn't matter. alas.

Same here. Ms332 damn it!!! This is the main crash bug that I hope they fix. This Bug turned an Excellent game to just a good game. Well all I can say is save often.

My game crashed on me WHILE I was saving. It totally corrupted/deleted the save file and I had to start the whole level 1 from scratch (I'm replaying the game) because I had only one save file.

I've only experienced (1) single crash, ever, when I was playing unpatched. The game was pretty much flawless in terms of system stability. After I installed the 1.25 patch, I've crashed about 5 times since I played, all occuring in the first level.

When I was using everything except for the "No 3d Audio" setting, the computer would completely freeze and I'd have to do a cold boot to reload windows. It happened to me to a point that my Slave hard drive went completely berserk and I had to reformat it because the File Allocation Table (FAT) messed up from the cold boots. What a mess.

Now that I'm currently using "No 3d Audio" as my setting, when the game crashes, it gives me the proper error (Invalid Page Fault with MSS32.DLL) instead of freezing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering this problem. I was about to reformat my computer, because I thought it was all screwed up from the freezing. My game of Black & White froze earlier today, too, must have been a coincidence, thank god.

I'm wondering if it's possible to use the pre-patched version of MSS32.dll to overwrite the patched version, so the game works again.
