Guns disappearing from inventory in Fallout 1?

Hey guys,

I recently started playing the original Fallout for the first time (huge fan of 3 and NV) and I've run into a problem. I've had two guns so far, a 10mm pistol and an SMG, both have disappeared from my inventory. The pistol disappeared shortly after I acquired the SMG in vault 15, I figured I must have accidentally sold it so I cut my losses and moved on with the game. I was just about to equip my SMG to kill gizmo and was shocked to discover it was no longer in my inventory. I'm kind of stuck without a gun now (I have one save from a few minutes earlier, before I accepted Killians reward, so I could load that and take the shotgun, but I really want the leather armor :(). Is this a known glitch? Could I have accidentally dropped my guns when I put them back in my inventory as instructed by guards before entering towns? I've retraced my step and can't find either gun. What now? I haven't been able to find a cheat code to spawn a new gun, and I just found out that these old games don't have console commands either. Anything I can do to get my weapons back? Has this happened to anyone else here? I was surprised when I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue when I googled it.

TLDR: My guns are gone. How do I get them back?

No idea about the bug, but if you look in the downloads section here you'll find save editors. Probably your best plan if you don't feel like restarting is to use one of those. Grab a couple of cheapo items from a vendor and turn those into the guns you need with the editor.

Also, did you use click and hold at all while in your inventory? One of the options that pops out there is drop item, probably best not to be doing that.
 
Soooo... as it turns out I accidentally put the guns in a bag. I just figured out how bags work. Old School Fallout is hard. I'm an idiot. Sorry. Appreciate your help.
