GURPS Fallout video - Colt Rifle?

Sorrow

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
So, I was watching the GURPS Fallout promo and I saw an interesting thing.

Namely, in higher res (480p), it's visible that the Assault Rifle is probably named "Colt Rifle" and the damage is 7d (in contrast, Desert Eagle has damage of 3d just like in GURPS High Tech).
What's so interesting about it?
In GURPS 3rd ed, it's a damage value of 7.62x51mm, so it looks like it was supposed to be a full calibre rifle.

To make things even weirder, both the trailer and the only inventory screen show .223 ammo, but no .308 or 5mm ammo.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for mentioning these great video’s Sorrow, even after all these years there is still stuff about this game to discover…but considering this must have been early days in the project, there would have been a lot of small issues that needed ironing out – such as weapons and ammo (people still aren’t happy if, some of the threads on NMA are to be believed).

The original name for the rifle was Colt rifle, check the Vault.

And yeah, it might've been full caliber.

Also, Fallout SPECIAL >>>>> Fallout GURPS all the way.

Or it could be a mythological future-past version of .223 that explodes people like blood sausages with the magic of hydrostatic shock.

Also, GURPS >>>>>>>> S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
R.I.P. Fallout: A GURPS Post-Nuclear Adventure 1994-1997.

Another of your half-arsed theory. A custom-made character system is superior to the generic GURPS.

Yeah, because a half-assed system put together in a few weeks by a group of people with different expectations from games is totally superior to a system that was worked on with a clear vision in mind and tested for years.

Yes, in this case, it is. SPECIAL is integral to Fallout - it's clearer, easier to understand and unique. This way, Fallout is a class of its own, instead of another universe for GURPS.

Not to mention that you're basically disowning the entire Fallout just because Steve Jackson was an ass.

Every system must have a beginning, SPECIAL might have been tacked on half way through development of Fallout, but the men behind it had years of PnP game playing experience, let alone they are some of the best game developers that ever worked in the industry. Gurps is great for Gurps, and SPECIAL is great for Fallout (unlike SPECIAL for Loinheart). So it’s a balance of system and the individual game in question. Would Fallout still been a great success under Gurps, with Tim Cain and the rest of the boys building it – undoubtedly…but we have SPECIAL.
