Warning: The Following Is From GameSpot's Rumour Page

RUMOR #1: Half-Life 2 is gold. Really. No foolin'. Honest.

Source: If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

The official story: Both VU Games and Valve declined comment.

What we heard: Ever since the release candidate for Half-Life 2 was submitted to VU Games in mid-September, a piñata has hung in the lobby of Valve's headquarters. The plan: to bust the sucker open when the game achieved gold status. Earlier today, GameSpot learned from an informed sourced that "the piñata has been broken" and the game has gone gold. Further evidence of the game's completion was a press release issued this afternoon touting the first review of "the entire game." Though nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the fat lady is at last clearing her throat.

GameSpot is sticking their necks out pretty far this time - wonder why ...

This small tidbit can be found here.

Thanks to all those who have flooded our mailbox with this bit of ... "news".

There is more info on this at:

Kinda old news, there was a popup on steam a while ago saying it had gone gold and you could purchase a gold, silver, or bronze hl2 pack via steam and get cs:source (full version) free with it.

phil, that popup said you could PREORDER gold silver and bronze...

the whole idea behind it is that you would get CS:S right away and HL2 lateron.

Once again, but i think this time it's true, a choice snibblet from Megagames

It is reported that in Europe H-L 2 has been sent to the PEGI (Pan European Games Information age rating system) for classification, then on to the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) for certification. Under normal conditions, this is the normal sequence of events for a game that has already gone gold and is preparing for release.

A British Board of Film Classification spokesperson has confirmed that the BBFC already has a copy of Half-Life 2

yeah, even officials are talking about november now, we'll just have to wait and see

Recently read a review in PC Gamer. I can practically taste it.

Though, I am pretty dissapointed that Counter-Strike: Source is the multiplayer component. HL2 Deathmatch or Team Fortress 2 would've been nice.

I've read PC Gamer twice, both times it was so terrible I put if off for years afterwards (the second time was a few years after the first, and things might have changed, though they obviously didn't).

What really is annoying is that I received a "Free" issue when I bought a game recently, that's when I read it the second time. They mailed me the issue, then they mailed me a bill for a years subscription. I refused to pay, because I didn't sign up for a subscription, just a single 'free' issue. Now I have just received a notice from a collection agency.

Those complete idiots. They have just ensured that I never pay a cent for or open a cover of PC Gamer again.

Yea its total bull. Had it gone gold it wouldve been available for download weeks ago. I plan on purchasing it tho.

Did you totally miss read my post? What i ment was had it been out I wouldve seen it on bittorrent weeks ago since they wouldve leaked it, now since we cant mention any such program si didnt. Now I had too.

so, if it isnt on P2P, it wont come out next month ? am i hearing you correctly this time snake ?

can't you see how stupid that comment is ?

Im saying it usually comes out illegal rather than legal. Probably 8 outta 10 times I can see it on torrent before it hits the stores.

you are putting to much faith on those pirate groups... recently, it's growing rarer and rarer for a major release to get "leaked" any significant time before store dates.

PS: someone just clean this thread please

LOS ANGELES (October 18, 2004) – Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) today announced that Half-Life® 2, the sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed PC titles in gaming history, will ship to retail outlets around the world in November. The Company confirmed that Half-Life 2, developed by Valve Software, has gone gold with a planned retail street date of November 16, 2004. The countdown to the highly anticipated retail street date has begun around the world, as VU Games completes plans to ship localized versions of Half-Life 2 simultaneously in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese.

“Half-Life 2 has surpassed our expectations in every sense – its high-quality graphics, ground-breaking physics and immersive first-person shooter gameplay set a new standard for PC action games,” said Bruce Hack, CEO of VU Games. “Half-Life 2 will go down as one of the best-selling PC titles, and we are thrilled to deliver this ground-breaking title to the worldwide gaming community this fall.”

Sure, and copies of Halo 2 and GTA: San Andreas I saw on ******** must have been in my imagination.

Nowadays most games leak at least two weaks before the release, and some dumbass teams even manage to leak the game source years before the game is finished. *coughvalvecough* This occurance has become so common that not even high-profile console games are spared (hence the Halo 2 and San Andreas examples). My prediction? Half Life 2 will be available for download within seven days.

By the way, am I the only one who noticed ToEE is available for "free" download on FilePlanet ("free" meaning you still have to be their subscriber to get it?)
