For the Canadians, that is.

I never did understand why the American Thanksgiving is at the end of November when the Canadian one actually takes place during Harvest time.

I think its because that's the month when the Puritans had their thanksgiving with the natives. I don't really know, though, nor care. The Puritans were increadibly inconsequential when it comes to the part of American history that matters.

Eh?

What's thaksgiving?

Some holiday noone ever told me about so they wouldn't have to give me cake?

Speaking of which, on this day October 10th, 2004, I saw the first Christmas Commercial of the year. Yes indeed, twas a Department store commercial and in the background played non specific but definitely Christmas themed music.

The Horror is upon us.

North American holiday. Supposed to be a celebration of the first feast the first settlers had with the natives, before murdering them and stealing their land.

Usually we eat a bunch of turkey and pumpkin pie.

Leave it to the Americans to believe any native American would've been glad to see those immigrants coming.

So what do you really *celebrate*, then? How can you commemorate some run in you had with an ethnic group you've all but 'cleansed'? I mean, isn't it all a bit hypocrite? It's like a Nazi celebrating the first meal they handed out in Auswitch...

And, why the name 'thanksgiving'?

/intrigued

I guess the settlers were all starving, and the natives invited them to a feast, so it's to remember how thankful the settlers were. That's how I remember it, at least, and I don't care to look it up to see if I'm right.

I'll be working, getting paid double time. Oh Yeah.

Water girl and dove are right, It's to celibrate the fact that the puritans were fucking stupid wen it cane to surviving in a land teeming with wildlife...

The injin's fed them a big feast... later, we gave them blankets infected with smallpox and killed a bunch of em... forced the survivors to move to reservations, and killed any who didnt do as we said...

later we let them move back on to their native casino's.

They were so thankful they realized it was a debt they could never possibly repay. They had two choices: 1) remain indebted to the natives forever (bad choice), 2) slaughter all the natives and annul the debt (awesome choice).
