Hello -Help with mod installation

FalloutBoyOz

First time out of the vault
I have a question, recently got the MIB88 Mod. Pre mod my game is version 1.0. Do I install the official Fallout2 patch first? I've had a number of issues, the first few times I tried to install it I got a black screen when entering the Trial temple. Then I kinda read the forum a bit more, and when I tried to install it I still got a black screen but could see my character and move him around and there were read hexagrams that got spread over the screen when I moved the cursor around. Basically, not really happy. I think its awsome someone put so much effort into this awsome game but the installation isnt very user friendly and the FAQ thread is huge! I tried searching for specific things but the search function just shows you what thread the words u look for are in, not what part of that thread. Real pain. Can someone help me out with this? I spent like 2.3 hrs trying to install this game. I am using a huge installation without the cd. What other mods does the MIB88 work with? what about killap's Fallout 1.02+ patch thing? I'll try looking in the huge thread of confusion a bit more but if someone can give me installation tips I'd appreciate it.

From here: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16940&start=1640

1: Clean install FO2 (uninstall, delete fallout dir, install)
2: Extract the megamod & the megamod update to two separate folders.
3: Move all the folders from the megamod update into the data folder of the megamod.
4: Move the fallout2.exe from the update to the megamod folder
5: go into the sound\music folder of the megamod and delete all the music files (*.acm) except 25sewer.acm (all the others are already in FO2)
6: In the megamod proto folder set all the files to read-only.
7: The megamod folder should contain fallout2.exe and a data folder.
8: In the fallout2 folder, delete or rename the patch000.dat file (if it exists).
9: Final part, To install just copy the fallout2.exe and the data folder to where you installed the game. (if you don't get asked about overwriting the exe and the data folder then you've done something wrong)

Already includes my unofficial patch plus pretty much all the mods that have been made. No need to install anything else after installing the latest version of MegaMod

Did that and I got an application error. I also didnt find a copy of fallout.exe in the update just in the megamod. The megamod also has the folders megamod\data\data so which data folder do you put it into? Installing a mod shouldnt be this hard...... I found the *.acm only if i did a windows search via start menu not in the actual folder, same goes with patch000.dat. I'll try one last time...

ok so just to be sure you do one folder \megamod for the main mod then u do a sperate folder \update and you put the first update in then the second then you move it all into the megamod\data right?

Sounds right.

In the end you will just be copying a folder called data and a file called fallout2.exe over to your main Fallout 2 directory. (where it already contains an exe file and probably a data folder as well)

ok so do I need to delete anything or put anything as read only? just copy them across? I have tested the game, it does work prior to any mods or patches so its this install process that is a pain. Might want to work on it, I find it frustrating. I dont hack/mod games just play them and its a shame that after all the work you put in that its complicated. might put some people off you know?

Yeah, follow the rest of the instructions I gave above. Make sure the protos are read only and that the patch000.dat file is deleted from the main fallout 2 directory.

EDIT:

This is MIB88's mod, not mine. I personally haven't done the instructions I posted above and just took them from the thread where another user said it worked.

Got it working, thanks for the help. Basically:

Copied megamod then update 1 and update 2 straight into the data folder with the fallout2.exe going into the main fallout menu and deleting it from the data folder as it went in there when i copied it all over. Then copies the sound acm files back in as I had saved them backedup to a seperate folder earlier. Then deleted patch000.dat and then make proto read only. I think thats pretty much it.

Cool glad you got it to work. If you run into any issues, post in the MegaMod thread and MIB88 and others will be able to help you. I have not played much of the mod, so I won't be able to assist in very much.

is this the best mod out there as far as fallout2 goes?

Yeah, pretty much. It includes my patch and almost every single mod ever made for Fallout 2. That's why it's "mega."

its superb...

fills gaps
adds tons
extends the game immensly

BUT..not enough threads on quest help.
searching an 85 page long thread for tips is a nightmare

It's a really good mod but it still has some bug which are beeing corrected everyday. MIB88 puts a great effort on it and i'm glad for that.

There's another thread about gameplay questions.
The thread with 85 pages is for technical problems, bugs, etc.
