Help, annoying question - easy answer if i could...

Sorry for the bloody annoying question but ive given up searching the forums(1 hr - half a packet of smokes im going to run out of lungs before i find the damn answer).

All i need to know is which program do i use to extract .pro files(fallout 2) so i can edit them frame by frame(first thing im trying to do is edit the team mate char's so i can actually make them look like their old selves just with a different type of armor on... that was a really bad explanitation... Eg put armor on team mate, instead of seeing a generic body type wearing that armor i want to create a copy of their body with they armor super-imposed over the top, so they seem a little bit more normal and add to the realisim effect, also so i can tell which persons which lol) sorry for the long winded explanation :) oh and soz for the annoying Q lol. BTW I know how to make new critters no probs its just remembering how to get the pic's out of the pro files thats driving me insane.

The .pro files are not the animations (animations are .frm). To do what you suggest above would be a LOT of work. Take one character, for example VIC, which uses the animation files NMFATT**.FR* ... he has 55 animation files each consisting of six animations inside ... that's 330 frames just for one character (and that is ONE appearance ie armor type). You'd have to basically draw new frames with the VIC head on each type of armor (330 x how many armors can he wear? ...). I really don't think you want to do this. If one was to go to that much trouble, I'd say create a whole new model that doesn't exist yet, or a new weapon animation like crossbow. I suggest trying something simpler if you don't even know how to extract the files. Read the modding FAQ to get some ideas.
 
Lol thnx for the help guys, its been a long 2 weeks(first day off so far). Id forgotten how they were stored so automaticly i went to the .pro. I know its going to take a while, im due for a break soon

Frame Animator 2.51 to me more precise :)

Step 1
Extract the *.FRM (and/or Fr0, fr1, Fr2, Fr3, Fr4, Fr5) files from the Critter.Dat file using an appropaite DAT extracter (Dat Man, Dat Extracter etc...)

Step 2
Using Frame Animator to 'save' the FRM file as Frame animator project, this will save the given FRMs offsets etc... into a txt based file and all the frames as separate BMP file.

Step 3
Do the same thing with the NPC (eg Sulik) and then cut delete the body off the BMP images so only the NPC head remains. These will be your templates for all future had transplants :)

Step 4
Now paste the head onto the desired armour BMPs from step two. It would be very wise to to it this way (see next step for why).

Step 5
When you have completed editing all the BMPs load the Frame animator Project file and it will automaticaly load all the edited BMPs with the correct offsets for movement and alignment (trust me, this is a huge bonus and will cut the required time in half). This is of course providing that you havent changed the image size of any of the frames.

Step 6
Oh yea, click on the create FRM button, and BINGO! You're all done :) I suspose it might not be as bad as I first thought as most NPC can only use certian weapons so you only need to do those ones.
 
Thnx Wild Qwerty - Cutting and pasting the head i was already thinkin of but its nice to know it would work :D now just to get off my ass and actually do it

Just finished my scripting forey(oh the pain!) so im starting the project now, got the next day and a half off so hopefully i should be able to get at least one character done in that time(with the help of lots of chinese takeaway)

update1: couple of hours in -(this is for casey wearing combat armor) walking done and scratching head done(mine and the anim's) - just gotta say damn the scratching is bloody anoying.
 
I suppose you meant leather jacket?
Cassidy comes in leather armor per default unless I mix something up here.
