One time i eliminated Fallout2 from my computer, but i eliminated it manually instead of using uninstall.so when i tried to install it again by clicking on the install button in the autorun, the button seemed to be uncklicable.
So i tried to click the uninstall button but whe i clicked it appeared a message that said that it could find the uninstallation log.
Then i tried to install FO2 by clicking on setup.exe over and over again but could even run it.
i've thought about this problem for a lot of time but i don't know how to solve this mistery, so i contacted the costumer support about my problem but they responded with this e-mail:

Hi,

Start > run > regedit > ok

Delete the following keys:

hkey_local_machine/software/interplay/fallout2
hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/app
paths/fallout2.exe
hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/current
version/uninstall/fallout2

Also delete any files left on the hard drive C:\Program
Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2.

Regards,

Support

But i don't even know what it means, so i need your help.

Sorry, i meant to say that i tried to install FO2 by clicking on setup.exe over and over again but i couldn't run it.

Ok in Windows there is something called a registry, which has information stored about your computer, what you've installed etc..etc...

The reason why you can't install FO2 is because you manually deleted the folder/files, and thus didn't remove the information stored in the registry which still says you have FO2 installed.
To fix this:

Click Start-Run and type REGEDIT and press OK/ENTER

You should now get a windows with 4 main folder, find these folders and delete them...

-Hkey_local_machine -> software -> interplay -> fallout2
-Hkey_local_machine -> software -> microsoft -> windows -> current version -> app -> paths -> fallout2.exe
-Hkey_local_machine -> software -> microsoft -> windows -> current
version -> uninstall -> fallout2

Thanks for the help with the REGEDIT but i still have problem.After i resolved that REGEDIT case, i clicked the install button of the autorun, but instead of going to the installation of FO2, it appeared a message that said:

<unknown> caused an error in Setup.exe
If it keeps having problems, try to reiniciate the computer.

Then i tried to click on Setup.exe, but after i clicked it, it appeared an almost exact message:

Setup caused an error in Setup.exe
If it keeps having problems, try to reiniciate the computer.

I restarted the computer 3 or 4 times to see if the problem vanishes but it still appears when i try to install FO2.

What windows are you using ? XP, 2000 ?

You can manually "install" FO2:
For the instructions below, I will assume that you have created a folder called FALLOUT 2 on your C: drive and that the drive the Fallout CD is in is your D: drive. Insert your actual drive letters where appropriate.

1. Copy d:\program\win\falloutw.___ to c:\fallout\falloutw.exe.

2. Create a text file in c:\fallout called fallout.cfg and add the following line to it:
[system]

3. You now have 4 options corresponding to the 4 install sizes:
3a. Do not copy anything else. This is the same as the smallest install, but is also the slowest way to play the game. If you do this, make sure you follow the steps in 3b, 3c & 3d below for editing the config file.

3b. Copy d:\master.dat to c:\fallout\master.dat. This file is 318 MB.
If you do _not_ do this step, add the following on the next line in c:\fallout\fallout.cfg:
master_dat=d:\master.dat

3c. Copy d:\critter.dat to c:\fallout\critter.dat. This file is 150 MB.
If you do _not_ do this step, add the following on the next line in c:\fallout\fallout.cfg:
critter_dat=d:\critter.dat

3d. Copy the entire d:\data folder to c:\fallout\data. This is 73 MB.
If you do _not_ do this step, add the following two lines to c:\fallout\fallout.cfg:
[sound]
music_path2=d:\data\sound\music

4. Make sure you close and save your changes to the c:\fallout\fallout.cfg file.

For example, if you chose to not copy any of the data files over, you should have a fallout.cfg file that looks like this:

[system]
master_dat=d:\master.dat
critter_dat=d:\critter.dat
free_space=0
[sound]
music_path2=d:\data\sound\music

Actually this is for Fallout 1, but it should work on Fallout 2 as well..
