I am interested in looking over the hidden dialogue within the master.dat but I cant figure out f2re and fade doesn't seem to work. Can someone help me?

RE: Help

The dialogue I mean is the dialogue that got taken out of the game but is still in the master.dat, and I was unaware my utilities were archaic thank you very much.

The only dialog I know of (and I'm no expert) is located in the text\english\dialog folder in the Master.Dat. They will have a .msg extension.

FADE should work fine to see and get to those files. You will need a hex editor to view them though.

Hope this helps.

RE: Help

Indeed it does help, however my problem is the hex editor part. I was unaware of how to view them once they were extracted, but now that I know this, where can I find such a wonderful tool?

Me-Thanks for the help

RE: Help

The MOD Squad site: http://www.pipboy2000le.f2s.com/

has a hex editor you can download.

Word of warning (you may already know this), but the files are compressed when you extract them from the master.dat. You will first need to extract them (WinZIP works fine) then view the extracted .msg file with a hex editor.

Good luck.

RE: Help

Thank you again for all the help and hopefully I'll finally be able to end my foolish problems

RE: Help

I have tried and failed again, when I first used the Fade application I told the newly extracted files that they were notepad files thinking I could use that to read them, not knowing I again had to unzip them. Is there anyway I can unzip them now that they are in the "notepad" form?

he doesn't need a hexeditor

these files are ASCII text, but if you don't unGzip them, theyll look like binary

JAG and Zen...

To extract files from a DAT use ResDAT it extracts and uncompress files in one pass (it's the fastest decompressor out there and the best of all I made it ;)))) )

RE: he doesn't need a hexeditor

That is why I say... They need to use useful utilities. The ones made by Mod Squad, not the ones by TeamX, like FADE :D

RE: he doesn't need a hexeditor

I think I will take your advice and try the other tool. I was getting tired of constantly unzipping everything. Its bad enough writing the mods in hex.

BTW. I have just about finished the mod I am working on (A new town section to the Den). Just getting the kinks worked out with going to the new section instead of leaving the Den all together. I got it to work, but the starting position is off. I think I found where that is, but need to determine what the starting position should be. Not usually so long winded. Well happy modding.

RE: he doesn't need a hexeditor

Overall, things just don't seem to work for me. ResDat was missing many components and when I finally found them, the damn thing wouldn't extract at all, just kept freezing. Now, when I attempted the Horrigan Armor Mod, I couldn't find the damn thing anywhere, it may just be human stupidity but can anyone help me with this, my newest problem

Thanks

RE: he doesn't need a hexeditor

On ResDat, if you're using DatMan preview, use DatMan Light instead of it. Why? Because DatMan is just a preview, and it contained a bug when doing full-extraction shit, and because it was a preview (and it was stated to DO NOT use, just to examine it), I didn't care for updating it.

Read the readme.txt, you will need Zlib components (they're included in the zip) and there're instructions on how to install them. Zlib has the functions to compress-decompress files from DATs.

The Frank Horrigan's armor is on Vic's house at the second town you visit at the very start of the game (don't remember the name :) )

RE: he doesn't need a hexeditor

that's why I say. They need to use fail-safe utilites. The ones made by TeamX, not the Modsquad ;)

RE: JAG and Zen...

the improved version of F2RE does that even faster and it's WAY smaller

Heh...

SHUT UP! ;)))))))))))))

At least, I'm the only one who is making something for Fallout modding, RIGHT?

If someone in year 2000 doesn't have msvbvm60.dll in his computer, it's not my fault! And if the people who download programs doesn't read the readme.txt files before run, it's not my fault, neither!

Listen...

Dear Dr. W95,

PEFAFE is 2 or 3 seconds faster than DatMan just because I'm using a progress bar, if not, DatMan would be .200 miliseconds (approx.) faster.

Also to extract a file using PEFAFE you have to:

Create all the folders that directs to the file in the DAT
Write 5 thousands letters to extract the damn thing
And the worse, it always fails the first time you want to use it

The only breakdown that I see on DatMan is that you have to wait 19 seconds to load Master.dat.

And the future DatMan will be a full suite to create and modify DATs.

I think console utilities are completely archaic and unuseful and they should only be used for testing/researching purposes.
Why write 4 hundred parameters if you can do it with 1 click?

RE: Heh...

I apologize for my anancient system that failed to contain the appropriate system devices, and I did read the read-me and thats why I was eventually able to get the program to run. By the way, is there any way to view, or read the dialogue behind, the ending cutscenes? I can't get the damn thing to run properly, every time the narrator starts talking, the game cuts him off and moves to the next scene, a solution to that problem would be most useful as well.

RE: Help

You have some stupid problems.Try shift+right mouse button on the *.gz file then "Open whith.."
then winzip and ok
