help, I have an annoying Half-Life 2 problem

Dick Justice

First time out of the vault
Error: Material "engine/occlusionproxy" uses unknown shader "Occlusion

it says this in the console, and whenever I use the flashlight and turn it off the screen flashes constantly, incessantly, annoyingly until I use the flashlight again, and sometimes it still flashes. Please tell me how to fix the problem or
where to go to find the solution. Thank you.

Did you somehow find this site (fallout, and post apoc rpg) and think that we all know how to fix yet another shitty FPS game to come out of a once respected developer?

Besides, this would be the wrong forum for game related problems, even if we had one here for games other than fallout.

it`s the right forum Dove, you`re a bit mixed up. All about gaming that isn`t Fallout related is fair game here.

And the game is great, one of the best ever, although it has some weird technical problems.

How comes Valve was once "a respected developer" and now it isn't any longer? What exactly you tought made HL1 great that is absent from HL2? As far as i'm concerned they're both great games, some of valve's shenanigans are crap, but as far as their FPS's go, it's games are both pretty great.

I would also like to take the time to comment on the fact that Half-Life 2 runs quite well on my goddamn Geforce 2 mx, that's got to earn valve some points. Well, these last times have proved this ancient, budget board ain't dead yeat, since it plays Rome:TW (better than medieval, go figure), Sid meyer's Pirates, Vampire: the masquerade (wich was rendered unplayable instead by a huge amount of loading screens in tandem with my 256MBof pc100 ram).

Yeah, i know, i gotta upgrade, just got a job, hopefully i can get something together until mid-2005

Hey Macaco, THAT DOESN'T ANSWER MY FUCKING QUESTION! Just kidding.
I also was wondered what happened to make them so vilified.

Steam's not that bad. Hasn't stuffed up for me, fast downloads, free opposing force... I like it.

Ok, let's try to be helpfull... i get a lot of those messages on the console while playing, but they don't seem to impact the game in any way... what configurations are you using? what's you vidcard? did that still happen after you reinstalled?

Now i have a fucking problem with bastard steam. It expects me to wait 600 fucking minuits while it starts up!!! Is there a way to shorten that time???

Steam is my nemesis. I spend an obligatory 30 min. preparing my PC each time so steam can work properly.

'nuff said.

Steam is evil. Because of them I can't play counterstrike because I let my friend borrow my Half Life 1 serial number and the bastard started a steam account with it. Plus, when I DO play on a friends account, waiting to downloading a "security module" EVERY GOD DAMN GAME is pretty nice too.

That's some huge treason, i hope you've already stabbed the bastard to death.

if it would work like it should it would be ok, but cheaters dont seem to be bothered by it at all.

btw it's not every goddamn game, it's every time you connect to a new server, which is by no means the same thing

Oh believe me, the very first chance I get to get his password and login, I'm changing the password.

Well, what you call games, I call "rounds", but finding a good server with people who aren’t asshats can require some searching sometimes.

rounds are till either team wins (or time runs out, which is 3 to 5 minutes on most servers). hence the max round 12 & 15 rules in cs wars.

a 'game' for me, would be per map. each mapchange a new map (scores reset, clean start). if you stay on the same server, you dont need to redownload the sec module.
