Help installing Fallout 1

Okay so I bought the Fallout Collection (Fallout 1, 2, & tactics) and was able to install Fallout 2 just fine. The problem is with Fallout 1 is that everytime I try and run setup.exe it says "A program needs your permission to continue." So when I hit continue NOTHING happens. No loading, no different window, NOTHING.


Can someone please help me out? I already tried running it as administrator and setting the comparability to Windows 98 but nothing happens.

Me personally, I would disable UAC and try again. UAC is a stupid piece of shit anyway, so you'd be doing yourself a favor

Anyway, if I remember correctly it's documented that UAC can mess up certain apps. If you're paranoid you can just reenable it afterward.

Also there's a page here called "How To Install Fallout" or something like that, would be good to take a look at that.

Make sure you're using ALL compatability options (well, besides 640x480 and 256colors) - run as admin, disable input services, etc. Try in 95, then 98, then XP. Also make sure you're doing this on all the exes. I don't know how that one is set up, but sometimes there's more than one exe used for installs so you gotta set compat mode for all of them

You don't really need to use the installer; read this article to learn how to perform a manual installation and look up "manual+install" in Forum search.
