Help running Fallout 2.

First time out of the vault
I have installed F2 multiple times but each time I try to play the game the Indian head splash screen comes up and then it just goes back to the desktop. It's strange because the registration box doesn't even come up it just goes to the splash loading screen. I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.2Ghz, 2MB of RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 on Windows XP. I'm running on a tablet if that makes any difference but I don't see how it would. Any help would be appreciated so I can get back to playing this awesome earth-shatteringly awesome game.

There's stickies here. Stickies that say 'READ BEFORE POSTING'.
Why don't people read them?

I did read them, but they didn't directly address my problem and I did try some of the things that are suggested, but none of them worked.

Then why do you neglect to mention how you installed, and what you've tried already, with what results? Because, you know, that's what the stickies instruct you to do. We're not psychics.

I did a humongous install using the explore/setup option. I've tried turning the hardware acceleration down, disabling the video card, reinstalling, disabling write combining, updating direct x/other drivers. All with the same results, nothing.

Never mind, I figured it out. All I had to do was delete the first and last lines of the .cfg file. Now it works like a dream. Thanks for your help.
