Hey, you there! The one skulking in the shadows! 'Ey Mr. Backstory man....I need your help.
If it's not too much trouble, can you please revise this and make some kind of 'historical essay' out of it? It's the framework of one of the projects I had in mind.
William..I know that you're too busy.. but if you're reading this, please, give your much-needed views.
And everyone else..I'd really apreciate any help.
Please?
A Gamble: The Brief History of the Universe
Disclaimer:
There may be some (okay, a lot) of similiarity between this piece and the system set forth by Gregg Sharpe. He was the first to use it widely in the fanfiction realm, but actually it existed well before that. Even back in the Usenet days, there was a variant of it around. It even goes back to the Old War between Fantasy and SF, and the blurring of edges.
The concept of Mimir's Well is a variant of the Norse myth, which Gregg has altered and popularized. Ditto with the Multiverse and Toltiir.
Mimir's Well, Toltiir, the Boojum and the concept of the Multiverse are not mine. They've been around, being actual fanfic figures....I'm just borrowing and rearranging them to dance to my will..BWAHAHAHA!! Dance, my puppets, DANCE!! AHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!
Ahem.
Actually, no. I don't want to be accused of plagiarism. I'm a spoofer, dammit! Not a bloody thief!
I'm rearranging things. I'd like to ask for Gregg's forgiveness for keeping Toltiir and Mimir in. Relax..this aren't THE _Toltiir_ you created. Sure, they're similar in many ways..but they're two different beings.
I just liked the bugger so much that I wanted to keep him on. Please, please..say it's okay!!
Anyway, here it goes...
If you feel this doth stink too much of plagiarism, let me know..
I wonder...could I make an alibi about this being a fanfic about a fanfic??
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thus does the Planewalker's Guide to Existence begin:
At first, in all dimension, existed a Being. A Supreme Being, whose power cannot be imagined, whose intelligence cannot be fanthomed, and whose caring cannot be repaid. The Universe we live in...it's not the Universe the Being knew. Perhaps the more correct form would be that the Universe WAS the Being.
And the Being was God.
In the beginning, God created (again?) the Universe. He shaped the stars, the worlds, and breathed life into still forms. In his hand He crafted the means to accomplish his Grand, Far-reaching Plan.
He created the Heavens and the Earth..and ge saw that it was Good. Then, he procceded to create in one world, in a secluded corner of the Universe...a race built in his own image..and whose essence will fill the Void.
ACT 1
The Earth proceed in the natural course of Evolution...and God saw it fit to nudge his Creatures now and then into the right paths. But more or less, he left them alone to their wiles.
He knew just how far the intelligence, the spirit he had imbued in them would reach.
The Patheon Project:
The greatest of all Human Emotions is Greed. A lust for ambition, a craving for power. It is a two-edged blade, an can cut the weilder as effectively as it does the enemy.
In the year of our Lord 3910, in the month of February, the 19th day, Tuesday...was started the Project that would shape the Destiny off all those in the planet. Headed by the renowned Dr. Sirius Mentat, the Patheon Project was established, a means for Humanity to get to next stage of their Evolution.
The Ra Project.
They began with one man, Rameses Jahid, a telepath of the First Order. He was the _Ra Project_, and in his blood was inserted the seeds of destiny. The Forced Evolution Virus, or F.E.V was known to be at best, ineffective among normal humans. At worst, it twisted them into horrid mutations. But on Ra, the F.E.V took a different turn, and chaged his psygionomy in astounding ways. It interacted with his DNA, changing matrices and optimizing them, rendering in the end..Rameses the Perfect Human. Immortal. Intelligent. Angsty.
In the year 3920, with the help of Dr. Trenwick, someone who has seen just how base the Project had become, he escaped.
At that point in time, Earth was ruled by an autocratic system, the Sublime Government Coalition. SGC was headed by a very ambitious man, His Highness Gehrin Barriani, who saw the Pantheon Project as his natural means to ascencion. Having Ra escape was definitely not a part of his plan, and he ordered his Forces to capture Ra at all costs.
Their trying had only attracted the attention of the Kama Mahdi Organization, or KAMAO. They rescued Ra from certain Death and saw in him the way to end the tyranny of SGC.
He became Ulimanthut Ra. The Saviour.
Using his increased sense and emphaty, Ra managed to keep the SGC forces at bay and led a sucessful rout into a Second Station Military Plant. Under his hand, guided by Allahin, the abdicated Leader, the KAMAO seemed a force to reckon with.
Any direct attempts by SGC to kill them off failed due to the KAMAO's tendency to blend into the harmless crowd instantly. It was Ra's powers in use, but it was largely classfied as a stange escape tactic.
Until the invention of the PKE meter.
It detected Pyscho Energy beyond the Spengler limits, and with it, the Patheon Project found its lost child.
The Zeus Aphorism-
SGC saw two ways to take out of the problem. The means to continue the interrupted study of F.E.V, and how it might be recogfigured, and the demoralizing of KAMAO troops.
To accomplish the task of recapturing Ra, they sent someone they would never expect. Instead of an army, they would send a single man.
A man entered into the KAMAO fold as Johann Zeus. He was a cheerful man, a boisterous beer guzzler, a good fighter, and had a tactical mind that surpassed even Ra's. And so, he was given command of his own squad. This squad, named Valkrie Legios, was the formost and most sucessful of all destablization troops.
This were looking well. KAMAO had pilfered enough armaents for SGC stores to attempt an attack at the Capital itself.
But in the midst of their charge, betrayal struck. Zeus literally stabbed Ra in the back, and led him off into the Fortified City. The KAMAO troops, left without a leader, soon dispersed and would not serve as a hindrance again.
With Ra back in the Pantheons, locked down and in a drug-induced coma, the SGC gathered enough data to reconfigure the F.E.V to work on normal humans.
A test subject was volutereed. It was Zeus.
And so, Zeus became the Secon Patheon.
The Odin Matter-
encouraged by the sucess of the Zeus Project, Dr. Sirius, now a man twisted by his own redical views on humanity, took another subject, a former KAMAO commander, and had a repressed mental syntaph. Tan Odinshammuer. Going around the syntaph would mean that the subject would become almost robotic, capable of most forms of thinking, but with a slavish loyalty that would intensify as time goes by.
For the most part, it succeed. And with the info lodged in Zeus' brain, he became the most efficient assasin, hunting down the rest of the beseiged KAMAO.
Unfortunately, the syntaph process was faulty, and Odin regained his conscience.
Perhaps it was because of this that he found he had a metal link with both Ra and Zeus. He never probed overmuch, and kept the existence of it a secret, the syntaph block in his mind rendering him almost impossible to PKE detection.
He contacted the KAMAO Legions, and convinced them that he was their enemy no longer..and that their Savious was still alive. He knew that the only way for them to suceed, and for the SGC to be taken down, was if Rameses regained conciousnes, and full use of his amplified powers.
It is unknown how it came to be, but Zues found them ,and offered his help. There was no way they could get far without his keen planning mind. At first, they were doubtful but they found that this time, Zeus was sincere in his loyalties. Being a Pantheon changed his view of the world.
The plan was simple. Rush in. Kill all the guards. Unhook Ra from the system. And it went off flawlessly.
But unknown to them, Dr. Sirius had completed a new strain of F.E.V, which will elevate someone from the mere facets of mortality and into the realm of Godhood.
And he had used it on Barriani.
And Barriani became as God, and in his newfound might, he had accidentally destryoed much of the Capital City, and caused the death of Dr. Sirius.
He never even noticed. He exulted in his feeling of omnipotence and crushed those in his way with fervor. Ra, Zeus and Odin combined their powers into a Gestalt, and found themseves/Itself unable to stop him.
But there was someone, someone who hated him with all her heart, who could stop him.
This was Shiela Fenwick. Daughter of the man he ordered excuted in wort way possible.
She released a special strain of F.E.V into the air, it was much the same as the one that infected Ra, but much more virulent and widespread.
In three hours, the entire world was infected. Most of the people died quickly and painlessly...and others..
They Evolved.
And they gave Themselves into the care of the Patheons..and formed a Gestalt that reched out to attract the notice of Someone on a Higher Plane.
They Gestalt and Barriani fought...and Barriani lost. But even as he died, he expended all his energies into a Void, and made sure that everything would be destroyed.
Everything.
And so Barriani, the Pantheons, and all of Humanity died.
And God saw that it was Good.
The Inductment:
Ra, Zeus, and Odin awoke in the Void. And there, they felt the Prescence of God. And they were humbled, and asked forgiveness for their sins.
And God forgave them. And gave them a gift that they could not refuse.
God called all those worthy throughout the Ages and imbued them with his own essence. It was a tranformation that turned them from Men into the true form of Celsestial Beings.
F.E.V. was a means of testing wheter Man was ready to take charge of their own Destiny. To shed their limits and know the fullness of the Universe.
From then on...They were known as Patheons. As _Gods_ in the truest sense.
And God recreated the Heavens and the Earth...and with a fatherly chuckle...God.............left.
ACT 2
Naturally, there was chaos after God left them alone. There were no parting messages, no last instructions, and most importantly, no one designated in charge.
That they were now Gods, there was no question. God himself had said..."You have risen above your constraints...and from hereforth, you are no longer just my little dolls of dust. You shall have my blessings and divine energy shall flow through your veins. I am God. And you are my Children. Claim your birthright......."
This was the way it was during the early stages... Most of the new Gods chose to experiment with their newfound powers, and created in the Old World that they had left, new civilizations to worship them.
Several Gods were sucessful in this, most notably was Zeus, Jupiter, Odin, and Shiva. They felt that they had deserved this..and God seemed to imply it that they were not punishable for sins of impiety anymore.
He was like a father, granting keys to an old car.
Some were horrified that they would dare to take such an inflated opinion of themselves and tried hard to encourage other cultures to grow, to give respect where it was due. In the end, they desisted and let the humans choose their own path. They were swayed by the fast-talking arguments of their peers...or were incidentally killed.
Yes, killed.
For in spite of their unimaginable might and knowledge, they were nothing more than vastly powerful humans, and sadly, they showed their roots quite well.
The Heavens was a place of neverending conflict, of factions forming and crumbling...of endless in-fighting and shuffling.
That is, until the Boojum decided to step in.
In the Beginning, there was the Word, and the Word was God. And God said.."Let there be Light.."
And the Boojum sprang into action. It created mass out of nothing, igniting a reaction that would last for billions of years, creating countless upon countless stars and celestial lightbulbs...and lampshades.
God was the Word. The Boojum was the algorithm that processed the command.
The Boojum was the very first thing created by God. Well, at least in THIS universe. It knew that its place in the scheme of things, and accepted it joyfully. It was the Perfect Cosmic Assistant(read:gofer!), unimaginably powerful, perpetually polite. It was said that it was a portion of God's own essence partitioned away.
There seemed to be little cause to doubt that.
At first, the Gods were suspicious when the Boojum offered to end their conflict. But they were properly humbled and brought into contrition when they saw the novel way that the Boojum chose to settle their arguments.
The Boojum created an entirely NEW universe.
The Multiverse:
Perhaps the only way to describe it would be thus:
"Infinite realms, infinite times, infinite..possibilities..."
-The Planewalker's Guide to Existence, Vol. 3
The Multiverse is so huge and mind-boggling that even the most philosophical of Gods didn't contemplate about it all too often.
Think of it as a road, endlessly winding down a hillside. If you come to a joint in the road, where would you go? To the left? Or to the right? Either way, each of those paths leads to more and more joints branching out into infinity.
Here's the quirk.
All of it exist in one place. In the same time.
What is say,...you chose to walk to work today, instead of taking your car? Had you taken your car, you'd have been flattened by that rampaging UPS Truck by the Interstate.
But since you didn't no worries, right?
Wrong.
Since sowhere out there, you HAD taken the car out..and died. In another dimension/universe/timeline, the shock of your death and the lack of a father figure drove your son to be a heroin addict.
But what is your wife remarries?
This is the Multiverse. An infinity of consequences.
No wonder Planewalkers view it as a Holy Grail tat was free for the taking of all. Because somewhere out there...there was a world where they didn't make the stupid decisions they did.
It was called the Garden of Eden paradox.
But I digress. ..
Universes and timelines are vastly different things, though basically, they are all similar. Timelines are tha branching of each of the decision of every living thing in the Multiverse...but more often than not, the really big events center upon a planet called..Earth.
The most notable examples are the two separate timelines of TM00249B and 00249C., both hinging on a split-second decision of a General in 1959. In one timeline, the world was cast into a global thermonuclear war, leaving the world a devastated Wasteland. On the other, things proceed as normal, until alien life forms are contacted in 1999...
Universes are the lumped total of all timelines on all the worlds in it. And also of the decisions of Heaven.
There are, of course, more than One Unvierse, hence Multiverse.
They all have their own local Pantheons, and over them is the Celestial Bureocracy, which is ruled by a Council of all High Gods.
The Heads are, of course, Odin, Ra, and Zeus.
And all Gods were also part of a timeline, which was the one that was part of the Original and also Boojum-made (but with the True God's blueprints..) Universe.
And then, of course, was the Nulliverse. The Emptiness from which all things sprang into being. And the place where the Boojum, and the Mimir's Well(1), resides.
ACT 3
At first, things went along swimmingly. Some of the Elder Gods (the ones that the True God had chosen) decided to die as mortals, in the hopes that they might be able to join the True God when they died.
There has been no proof that they were successful. Certainly, they never showed up in Valhalla again.
But, as things went, new Pantheons were inducted to replace the Old.
And there was an imbalance. For more New Gods were coming in than what was electing to die off.
There is a very good reason why Pantheons took on names of aspects of the Universe. It serves as a focus, a way for them to concentrate on their duties. Without God to watch over, things can go wrong rather quickly in the Multiverse. However, having a God with a\bonded to an Aspect Stabilizes that Aspect.
For example..weather. Weather is chaotic an unpredictable. However, a Pantheon of Weather can influnce it to his will. Soon, he will beginto BE Weather itself, and the patterns can be established.
They came in droves, and under sillier and sillier names.
When there was a God of Potato Chips, the Boojum decided to interfere again.
The Boojum, using fragments of itself, and the essence of the Multiverse, created two new patheons, to keep the Balance in the Multiverse.
The Two Facets:
The First was Toltiir, the Elder God of Chaos. His power rating is on par, and probably even surpassing those of most High Gods, but he acted in such a friendly, playful manner, constantly entangling himslef in shallow mortal affairs, that most tended to forget that. He was Chaos personified, a being whose sole purpose is amusement.
And then, there was Mimir. The Goddess of Time and Existence. There can be no guaging her power, since she had only used it once before, and the only witness was the Boojum, and there was no way to coax unvolunteered information out of THAT.
She was Order, the Cosmic Supervisor. The Boojum WAS the creator of the Universe, but it was she who kept it on ticking. She made sure that everything went on going correctly, kept an eye out for anomalies, and fixed Rifts that had been caused by careless Planewalkers.
And she was also incredibly lonely.
While Toltiir was down on Earth, pretending to be a little girl's pet cat, Mimir was approached by a dashing young God. Lucifer was his name, and systems programming was his game. Together, they built a Multiverse-wide System that automated her tasks, everything from keeping the flow of time, to the registry of new Gods. She was left free to go on long jaunts, savoring the newfound emotions in her heart.
Toltiir returned, saw Lucifer, saw the Ygdrassil System, and noticed several security holes. He patched it up, and warned Mimir about this, but she just brushed him off. She said that he was selfish, and it was a wicked attempt to curtail her new freedom.
He was just like the others, she was sorry to find, he just viewed her as no more than a fixture, a slave to their whims, and not as a real person who had a right to live and love.
Toltiir was deeply stung by this, and did not speak to her after several millenia.
He involved himself in research on the Universal Basis, and on the Ultimate Force. He made a Codex that tried to describe the workings of the universe, and using this, plus a little help from the All-Maker, he managed to construct a little "let's-make-up" present for Mimir. A thingie that would do all the things her System could do, plus looks with a little more *style* than that bundle of wires.
It is said that science on a high enough level was undistinguishable from magic. The opposite also holds true. The Mimir's Well is a Class Zero Maagical Artifact. It is also known as the Mainline Inverse Multitude to Introstpect Reality- altering device.
ACT 4
The Corruption:
And so, he was indeed surprised to see, that in just the short time he was gone, Order had abandoned entirely the Heavenly Realms.
The first thing he saw upon entering Valhalla was the heads of several Cherubim stuck on a pike., and loathsome creatues feasting on fallen Seraph entrails.
He vaporised them all with a wave of his finger, and entered the heavenly City with trepidation..
"Where the f*** is Mimir?!"
-Toltiir's first word upon entering Heavem.
When he got to the Grand Council on Olympus, he was filled with revulsion at what happened to the place. It swarmed with demons, and splattered with the blood of Gods and Angels. What inflamed him most was seeing that some of them where stabbed inthe back...
It was reflection of the way the Balance had disentigrated. Yes, they were dead. Truly and irrevocably. There were ways to kill Gods.. the first being simple. A distruption of said Patheon's connections to the Cosmic Force...accoplished by replacing and absorbing the God's energies. Energ blasts, magic spells..they all work through the use of this phenomenon. The last was the use of bladed weapons made with Godkiller Metal, Elberium, found only in the planet of Elbereth. T
His eyes turned with a feral anger, and he set upon the beasts who delighted in torturing the immortal Gods, whose organs healed up almost immidately after dismemberment.
He slew them all, and he smashed through the normally impenetrable guard door and entered the Inner Sanctum, now converted into Throne Room.
And in it sat the Mistress of all of Hell's Legions. Mimir.
The Insurrection:
Toltiir was shocked beyond belief and allowed himself to be captured. But he was taken to a cell with all the other Gods, a serious mistake.
Ra, the last of all of the Elder Gods, and the only one among them capable of understanding such blatant betrayal, had taken precautions..
Immortality was a state of mind. Ra felt unbearably old, though he was a sfit as ever, and he wasn't the Great Leader he had been. He gave Toltiir directions to his hidden stash of Counter-insurgency supplies and wished them the blessings of the One True God.
Toltiir freed them all from their Bindings and took back much of Lesser Asgard. Rallying a force of some of the less-drained Pantheons, and all the reamining Angels, and a few Planewalkers who just happened to be around, they stormed the Arcane Sanctuary in Okar'baras, the chosen base of Lucifer, who now calls himself with the title of Satan...meaning ruler of all things.
The Demonic forces were many, but they had the element of surprise. They had gotten through the Main Gates without much difficulty, and now faced themain Horde.
It was pitched but uneven battle, until Toltiir and the Satan themselves went into the fray.
But while Toltiir had waxed on scholarly pursuits, Satahn Lucifier had been making and using arcane lore, dfraining conquered foes of their Life Energy, to add to his own.
So, it was hardlya a. fair fight Satan remained standing for all of seven minutes, but at the last moment he used a Binding Spell, enforced by the twisted nature of the planet they were on, that kept Toltiir's power permanently locked away. He was now cannon fodder for all but the dumbest of Demon Lords.
Toltiir had changed into his cat shape, the one he had used for so long that it felt as much of a natural form as his real one. He used its added nibleness to stay alive. He found that in this form, he could actually tap into his a bit of his powers, since it could draw upon a much narrower resource.
Nevertheless, he was outnumbered and outsized.
Mimir pleaded with Lucifier to let Toltiir live on, as a slave if necessay, just for him to live..
Satahn snorted and told her he would cause too much trouble.
She didn't argue further, and this damned her in all their eyes.
Satahn Lucifier readied an artifact that he had made from piecing together the many fragments of th unresolved energy from Creation. It would invalidate even the Boojum itself! He could now drain all of the powers of the Multiverse and transfer it all to himself.
The device called something all right...a Deus Ex Machina, if you will...
Reality itself Shifted as the Boojum made its presence known. All the ruined buildings, the dismebodied corpses, the sreaks of dried blood, they all vanished and were restored. Darkness enveloped them all as the Boojum's many tendrils, each a universe all its own, wrapped around them.
Rearranging the Cosmos:
Three Gods blinked into the Boojumverse, right beside the Mimir's Well.
The Boojum confronted them all with hidden knowledge of their own desires. They ALL dreamed of taking his place. Toltiir and Mimir, while they too could enjoy the rush that power gives them, they realize that with great power comes great responsibility. But Satan, he let this desire consume him, and it will destroy him.
Satahn attacked the Boojum directly, and was slapped away by a tendril. He fell into the Well, and its water bubbled as energies began to accumulate.
Lucifier was given a wish.
Lucifier took his wish.
Lucifier was granted his wish.
He got his dream. He became the universe, much like the Boojum. The problem was that he was too spread ..a moluecule in every dimension, to be of much use.
Mimir cried, and questioned the Boojum's right to decide the fate of others, to rule over things that he had no jurisdiction over. Surprisingly, the Boojum agreed with her,m and gave her the chance to change it all.
Toltiir was brought out of the Boojumverse, and as he landed, he felt Reality ripple, as something of unimaginable momentousity happened. Mimir had made a wish.
The Boojum appeared to all of them...and told them that it would no longer take an active part in their affairs. It established the renewed Grand Council, a Parliament of all High Gods, and voted upon with the Lesser ones.
Mimir..and the Mimir's Well...was a fate that cannot be revealed at that time. Toltiir was assured that yes, she was alive, and was probably out searching for her true purpose.
ACT 5 The Restoration
Things settled down after a while. It seemed that almost nothing had happened, all the building were there, in perfect condition , care of the Boojum. All the old scars faded away, and new Gods were inducted from various Realms to replace the ones lost. Heavenly Business proceeded with renewed vigour.
Ra still presided over the High Council, but his was a hollow voice, nothing more. He wanted to die...but the means to do so had forever been taken from him.
Toltiir tried searching for Mimir, but gave it up after a few centuries. He settled down, taking a vote now and then. Mostly, he played around with mortal affairs and worked at being quietly forgotten.
Until the day..that the Boojum sent for him. There seemed to be a possiblity that the True God can be contacted. He was brought to the Boojumverse and was shown...the restored Mimir's Well.
And the Bet was started.
The winner, be it God, Man, or Demon, will be granted Power beyond wildest dreams, and absolute supremacy over their own universe. The Boojum has a plan..and no one, int he heavens, in the Earths, and in all of Realites...knows what that plan is.
We can only hope that It suceeds.
Somewhere, an old man with a grizzly white beard, and a bouncing beer belly, laughed with his grandchildren. They walked into a Wishing Well, and as the old man stared into its depths, his face became filled with concern. He dropped a coin into the well and told his crandchild to make a wish. Then, they left, the scent of a delicious Turkey dinner drawing them home.
As the coin settled to the bottom, it began to glow with a subtle white light...

Forces present in the Multiverse
1. Life energy- the most basic, it is also difficult to manipulate.
2. Magic- more limited than life energy, it is however, easier to use. Gods and the more powerful mages combines life and magic energy to form mana.
3. The Ultimate Force- the Light of Creation, the Will of the All-Maker, etc, etc... It can also refer to a series of obscure coincidences that inevitably lead up to a scenario and a foreseen conclusion. The Boojum uses it exclusively. The only other user is..God.
Important places in the Bet:
1.Mount Olympus...the seat of the Grand Council of the Gods. It was thought to be impregnable until the Insurrection.
2. The Nulliverse/ Boojumverse...the origin of all things. It is not technically empty...since both the Mimir's Well and the Boojum is in it. Lately however, it seems that the even Boojum leaves the place....
3. Asgard...the dimension in which the Gods reside.
4. Elbereth...the world where Lucifier chose to build his Stronghold. It is Temporal Nexus, a funnel of Great Energy. When it was utterly destroyed in the fight between Toltiir and Satahn, it resulted in the utter cessation of magic flow to several dimensions.
Further explanations:
Other Temporal Nexuses exist. Some are people..and some are artifacts. The Mimir's Well is a Nexus.
5.TM000409B.BDM61W3....the world where the Bet is carried out.
6. Thakar'min...the place where the Gates of Hell first appeared.
7. Okar'baras....the battleground for the Insurrection.
8. Ascarthia.....a reconstructed park that replicates the Capital City of SGC-ruled Earth. Ra had taken to being cloistered here. Ths is where the Reconstructed Grand Council Hall is sheltered.
9. Agoranni.....a marketplace. Gods use the currency...Celestial Credits...or C-Notes..
10. Appalitt....birthplace of the Applican people and language. Appalics are the only non-Gods allowed in Heaven. They are but one rung away from the final stage of their evolution..and are waiting to become pure energy. In the meantime, all Appalicans work as Celestial Salarymen. They are paid in Energy Creds, the base tender for C-notes.
11. The Gallery of Worlds.....a place where the God's influence doesn't extend. It is quite probably the dimension the Mimir's Well draws its energies from.
Created by William, here is its essential datum:
The Gallery of Worlds is a medium to travel through space and time… not in the meaning of travelling back and forth through time, but in the meaning of saving time when travelling to a certain location… Planets, light-years apart, can be reached by a simple few days of walking through The Gallery. It is also possible that The Gallery connects worlds in different times… who would know, since it is the only way to get to those planets is using the Gallery… Meaning there may be Planewalkers wandering around the Earth who died ages ago, or won’t be born for eons.
The Gallery consists of long corridors filled with doors, above all doors are little runes, hanging in midair. Between the doors is a variation to the void… It is not dark, though it is not light either, there is no colour, but to the mortal eye it looks most like grey. It is told that only The One True God (That gives a possible solution for ‘that’) and perhaps his Perfect Celestial Assistants would be able to move through this void, and survive. If any ‘normal’ god or mortal would step into the void he would basically, literally step out of existence. Except for 1134 exceptions… (That would be the void space between certain doors… 2268 to be precise.) These doors are not always designated, but are simply known to the inhabitants of The Gallery… By stepping into the void space between these doors, one enters the only stable space in The Gallery, Honest John’s Tavern. An enormous (100 by 200 (metres!) tavern with a bar stretched out over the entire depth, there are three balconies and many rooms for rent… since some people are afraid to die, they spend eternity in the Gallery, afraid to leave since outside The Gallery they could die of old age and outside the tavern the could get killed. The Gallery is also swarming with mercenaries and other thugs… trying to rob travellers of their precious belongings. That’s why Guardians were appointed… some of them are on John’s payroll, but some work for the good of The Gallery and nothing else. The Guardians see to it that no one takes technology and/or artifacts to worlds that are too primitive to handle it and apprehend those with evil intend.
12. The PlaneWalker's Guild....a Guild for those who can travel through timelines and dimensions. They are the most highly-respected and ridiculed figures in the Multiverse. Some of them had become so powerful to actually qualify as Gods in their own right..but chose to live a handscrabble existence, wandering between worlds..
---------------
The Planewalker's Guide to Existence ends thus:
Believe not what you see...don't recognize what you hear. What you feel or touch is of no consequence. Reality..is a medium that can be altered with a whim. It is our creed, our honor, to be entrusted with the universal Truth.
And so remember..that infinity is the only thing we have to contend with..
