Horror games

I think scary games are awesome. Aliens vs. Predator is by far the freakiest game ever (playing as the marines) and although the overall game might not be the best every made, it's still extremely fun to play. Also System Shock 2 was sweet as well as Half Life's mod 'They Hunger'. I don't know why horror games don't sell like other genres, to me their they're some of the most exciting games to play.

Completely agreed. AVP was wicked freaky, AVP 2 was even more so. AVP 2 was also just a wicked good game. Playing as the Predator was awesome.
 
I heard AVP2 was actually better than the first one. It got pretty great reviews when it came out.
 
I really loved the "They Hunger" mods for Half-Life. Some of the scariest gaming moments of my life.
 
*nod* Heretic and Hexen were excellent. The original Doom had some scary moments, too.

Not to mention Quake.
 
Tension in games is obivously a good thing, since it creates excitement. On the other hand, the older I get, the less I like scary games - Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Resident Evil, Thief, I'll pass (though I played the demos) -. The only game of that type which I sort of enjoy is the old Space Hulk. The scariest moment I had was when I unkowingly walked through the city of Daggerfall by night; "VENGEANCE!" shouts the ghost of the king.

With increasingly realistic graphics, I really don't want to stare into the eyes of a zombie; while I played Doom I & II quite a bit, I definitely won't pickup Doom III. Oh, and surely it must be possible to create games that aren't in 32 million shades of grey?
 
Space HUlk was awesome. I remember going to CompUSA just to play that (I didn't have a PC at the time). What I liked about it was how your weapons would run out of ammo or jam and then the Genestealers would be on your ass. Excellent. Wonder if there is a download.
 
Even Home of the Underdogs gives a link to purchase Space Hulk, so I guess you're out of luck for a legal download. :cry:
