So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Just for fun i oppened an hotmail account.
I did not register to any of their offered membership to anything.
I did not send any e-mail.
I did not give my address to anybody.

That was a week ago.

Today i check-in the account.
BAM!!
35 new messages
what the..?????

It was all junk, 35 messages in a week all junk, Sex, cadilacs, viagra, work at home, somme at home college, you name it i received it.
How fucked-up is that?

I unregisterd to some of those to see what would happen i'll keep you guys posted on this.

Yeah that's pretty fucked up, fortunately their anti-spam email system works pretty well at keeping out probably 95% of the spam...

Was your email address one that could be guessed by an automailer that sends to all kinds of addresses? I've had my email account spammed by messages sent to every address with the "word" "xot" in it.

Yay, Xotor is back!

I'm still afraid to open up my old @msn.com email account - last time I did that, it had somewhere around ~500 messages, ALL spam, collected for a period of few months. And my mother had to take another email account after some dumb-ass kept sending her two dozen of absolutely identical emails a day (the only thing this type of advertising does is annoys the hell out of people and gives your crummy business a bad rap).

35 messages in a week? WOW!! That's pretty good Ugly John. I get 60-70 PER DAY in my inbox and ANOTHER 60-70 in my Junkmail box. And don't worry about that 'un-signing' bs. I've unsigned to a whole lot. It worked for.... Oh I'd say about a week. Before I got flooded again....

Incidentally, I did the same thing as a test. I registered an account over at http://www.email.com about a month ago. It's still sitting there with nothing in it..... Although, that might just be my good fortune. Of course, the other thing you have to consider with hotmail is someone else might've had that e-mail address before you did. So you might be getting their spam. Just a thought.

The funny thing is I have never really received any spam in most of my e-mail account before. I have one at Yahoo, and one at Netscape. The only thing I ever got are the stuff I actually signed up for elsewhere like COMDEX stuff, and some stupid Chinese portal newsletters. I believe they track single persons instead of e-mail accounts. Do you leave anything for your ISP or e-mail sites to sell?

You know what's really bad? When they start using your name. That can get a bit scary...damn earthlink. Just remember: "Spaminators" don't work.
 
Heh.... I like it when I get e-mail in my Darkunderlord Hotmail account that is FROM someone called "DarkUnderlord". Last I checked, I have no need to send mail to myself :) It's kind of an instant spam warning. I see an e-mail from "DarkUnderlord" and go "Oh, it's from someone with the same name as me.... That MUST be important... DELETE"

the only way to get stop the junk mail on hotmail is to make your inbox filter everyone except those in your address book. But then you might be missing some real mail (not bloody likely but maybe). Im not even sure if it would work cuase ive never tried it. i bet a piece of junk mail would slip in there every so often.
 
Hmmmm..... Nope. I'd miss a lot of my mail. Mainly because it all comes from different people whom I don't know. Either sending me a one off thank you letter (those warm the cockles of my soul, they really do :) ) or asking me a one off question. Something like that would only work if you only wanted certain people to e-mail you. Even putting the junk filter on high puts a lot of normal mail in the junk box. Apparently, a thank you letter is some form of spam?

Drumrolls please!!!

After less than a month i have so far received 2005 e-mails, from those 1999 came in on Sunday from "emmy", i've probably would have gotten more if hotmail did not block my account at 2Mb.

Spamming with a random e-mail account.
I think i,m going to open a new one with a a name like "ihavearedcar@hotmail.com" or "iamdrinkingapepsi@hotmail.com"
and see what happens.

Maybe you should move to Yahoo, bec. I get 6(used to be 15, I think)MB of space, and I haven't got a "real" spam in 2 years(which is like eons in net time).

Lycos isn't bad either; I've had an account there for about 3 or 4 years, and don't get any spam except the stupid shit that requires you to give an e-mail address to do this or that (ie others sites). I primarily use it for junk like that, and use my verizon account for personal shit.
