How can my friends and I make tactics MP matches last longer

Boltboy

First time out of the vault
Okay, so some of my friends and I have been playing Fallout Tactics MP with the WWII ruleset (only WWII guns, light armor, etc.) with 2k characters.

We are disliking a LOT of things including:

-since we dont need charisma, or luck really, we can max out perception, agility, etc. and our heavy gunners can rip people apart across the map.

-It only takes 1-2 shots to kill someone, no matter where they are or what position they are in. No time to take cover. No matter the situation.

-Cover doesnt "mean" anything from what we can tell. You can be peaking over sandbags or standing in the open, does it make a difference?

Basically, we are getting frustrated b/c against each other its always 1-shot kills. A lot of this probably has to do with the fact that w/ 2k characters and not needing hardly any skills besides your primary and mabye secondary, you can get guns up to 200+.

Any suggestions to make these matches more fun or last longer? I havnt played MP in a long time but I swear they used to be more fun.

I think with the WW2 rules, 1-2 shot kills was what was desired?

But;

Try adjusting the options?

Try playing ITB or STB?

Try different maps?

Or;

Use the editor to make some handicapped multiplayer characters, or armour?

Use the editor to make some custom weapons and distribute them to your friends, i.e. give the machine guns huge accuracy penalties.

In entities_0.bos is a text file called races.txt, extract this to core\tables with winzip. Using notepad search for statbase_Human and then edit the min-max ranges and distribute it to your friends. In the sp mod I'm working on the min will be 1, max 5 and starting amount 3, which does make a difference to gameplay. You could lower the maximum for perception and raise endurance.

Really appreciate the tips. I never considered using the editor. I always assume those things are terrible user-friendly and I leave them to the people that know what they are doing.

As for adjusting the options, which options could be useful in multiplayer?

And, sorry for the ignorance, but what is ITB and STB?

Thanks again,
John

Slow down the ap regeneration so people can't fire as often, turn up or off the friendly fire, disable/enable xp so people can level or not, etc etc. Up to you, really.

ITB Individual Turn Based, STB Squad Turn Based.

The backbone of the WW2 mod was to kill enemies in one or two hits for realism purposes.

If you like long games, try games with lvl 1 - 3 chars and crap gun skills although they will still die fast if an unlucky burst rips em apart.....
