how do i get into the mir space station?

I was wondering about the mir space station i dont really really know there is a circle of spikes in the ground and a carpet in the center beside it but thats all is there a way in at this one place they said i could the url was http://extra.gamespot.co.uk/pc.gamespot/guides/fallout_gg/ but if you could help me i would really appreciate it please help me that encounter is really cool i am dying to get inside it please help?!?!?!?!?!
