How do I get the Demo levels to work in retail FOT?

Arthur Eld

First time out of the vault
I downloaded the demo levels from http://www.duckandcover.net/tactics/maps/single.php and apparently there is some way to get them to work with the full version of FOT in the single player campaign, but I'm too much of a n00b to figure it out myself  I'm not asking anyone at DAC because they tend to bite your head off for even bringing up FOT. Can anyone here help? I did try searching the forum archives for the answer, but didn't find it.

First of all, I don't know where you got the bad idea about DAC. I assume its second-hand info. If you post a question in the correct forum, there will be no problem. Same goes here, misplaced posts will get you nowhere.

You will have to install the 1.27 patch to be able to play custom missions, so download it and install.

Well, we all know how that works :D Got Vatted couple of times :D

I think you have to update Tiles used in the editor to make all the tiles visible... I'm not sure... never took the time to play them on FOT... just played them with the demo.

The tiles on those maps are placed on different levels, I've screwed aroud with the map editor and took a few things from the second demo map and copied it into another map... But I needed to update tiles used in order to see them correctly... Don't know if this is nessusary if you're just gonna play them.

EDIT: Don't forget to save if you're updating the tiles used

If anyone wants to make a tutorial on how to load custom maps and send it to me, I'll post it on NMA..if not I'll have to do it and right now I'm somewhat busy..

For the most part it is a matter of installing the custom map per the readme instructions and then when FOT is started there is a menu button to load a custom mission. But the button is only visible after loading the 1.27 patch. That's all there really is to it, no need for a tutorial.

Um, the post on DAC downloads page said that somehow they were made to use in the single-player campaign, I guess like the springfield mission. Am I just interpreting that wrong?

Hmmm, JJ is right... Follow the instructions on how to install it into your FOT directory.

NOTE: Sometimes tiles don't show up in the editor, depending on system specs... I've seen this happen alot since I'm modding FOT and sometimes switch computers, switching date from one computer to another... Sometimes you do need to Up-date tiles used... FOT doesn't have a solid install on every computer... I have the american FOT cd's here and they install fine on European systems... but don't try to do it the other way around cause it doesn't work... Why ??? I have no idea... I really don't, it's just not a solid install system.

The same goes for installing custom campaigns and mission maps, they sometimes need to be updated in the editor in order to play them properly ingame.

"Update Tiles Used"

Arthur Eld, if after following all the installation instructions it still doesn't work, let me know and I'll check the maps... I remember they do have some problems but it's fixable in the editor.

Greetz,

Snake

EDIT: The bonus mission suffers the same problem... You need to use "Update Tiles Used" to let it show properly ingame... Don't ask me why... I didn't make the damn map :D But it's a well known bug.
