How do I rest?

I have found references to "resting" in walkthroughs and guides, but I cannot find any key or function that allows me to rest during the game to regenerate hit points. I know one heals over time while travelling, but is there a way to just rest in one place? If so, how do I do it?

This question refers to both Fallout and Fallout 2--specifically, the versions of the game that are boxed together and presumably are the most recent versions.

If you are serious, then click the bell in the top left corner of the pip boy screen.

Press PIP button. Click in the clock at top. Then choose the time to rest.

Press 'z' key.

You can access the rest function by snapping you cd, and stabbing yourself with the shards in a paganistic ritual. Just fooling, took me forever to figure it out(was 9-11 at the time) hit z, or the bell in you pipboy
