how do i sharpen my spear?

thir

First time out of the vault
I am playing the megamod and mynoc taught me how to sharpen spears and gave me the flint back, only i cant figure out how to use it to sharpen my spear, so how to i do that?

anyone? it's the very first quest in arroyo, after you find the flint he sharpens your spear, if you come again with another one he sharpens it as well and the third time he says going to teach you how to do it yourself ...

btw where is the fucking book in the den, i looked everywhere, It's always have been THE most annoying quest.

link please? because all i seen is the 'technical issues and suggestions' megamod thread...

Do a search for sharpen AND spear, checking for "posts". You'll find it then.

I used google before and kept finding the original quest.

Mr.fixit should be mentioned somewhere but i dont recall seeing it on the download page nor in the outdated readme file.

As far as I know, the book spawns in several different locations every time. You just have to look around.

Yea, I recommend hitting the "shift" key to show what's on the map. Check each location spawn area and look around.

Edit: For those derisively saying that the OP should use "search", did you try search? Looking up "sharpen spear" and only under post message, I have 527 hits. When there is more than one page in a thread, the search feature does NOT bring you to the post that has the text you're looking for. Search here sucks balls.

If you don't know the answer, don't say anything. No need to pretend to intellectual superiority. If you do know the answer, then don't be a dick and just answer the question.

Being that I'm the only one who told him to do a search (since Pixote just said to move it to the proper thread, perhaps to avoid the creation of extraneous threads or maybe to get a faster answer), you must be addressing me. So, not quite sure who pissed in your Cheerios today, nor do I care. Maybe what you should do is not pretend to know anything about what somebody else posts and why. The reason I said do a search for the specific terms is because I knew that, at the time, there were about 25 posts related to "sharpen AND spear" (and only about 35 if you don't limit it to modding). Try it. It's not over 537. Yes, I could have posted the link. But you know what? I get tired sometimes of answering the same questions over and over. I also get tired of reminding people to read the files in the readme folder. But, on a more practical level, by giving an example of how to use the search feature, he would be able to perhaps do a better search with another topic next time. Nothing to do with any kind of superiority. All to do with teaching a lesson (about reading the readme files and using search). Don't be a dick and assume everyone else is trying to be a dick.

Though it was limited in this thread, I just see it all the time in various forums and it annoys me. "I'm tired of answering over and over" is sort of silly to me. You don't have to answer; nobody is forcing you to.

Even if the search is more focused with use of "and", I still don't see how search is beneficial for threads with more than one page. The megamod thread is 51 pages, for instance. Which page was the spear sharpening answered on? Search doesn't seem to take you to that page; you just go to page one.

So, yea... I'm just frustrated with the pseudo help.

We can't have everything our way. I guess you'll just have to go on being annoyed.
You're right though: nobody forces me to do anything with regards to this mod. But, he's done nothing to me, so I was willing to help him out. I didn't provide the answer, but showed him how to find it, which is even better because maybe he will find the answers to questions that have been asked and answered many times before. (See how that works?) You don't approve of my methods? Tough.

I can't teach people how to read. I also can't teach people how to think so that they can use the tools given to them. Play around on the search feature sometime instead of instantly talking out of your ass. Look at the various buttons. I also invite you to read the instructions on the page (that is how I knew about the AND, OR, etc.). After you have done a search, it actually DOES take you to the page with the words highlighted for you if you press the right link. Not the right page/terms/subject you were are looking for? Then just go back and try another link. It's not rocket science.

No shit that just saying "search for it" is not helpful. But that's not what happened here. Or were you calling this

There is a readme file specifically for Mr. Fixit.
psuedo-help?

Telling someone to read a readme file that has been put together hardly counts as pseudo-help. If people took the time to write it, then others can take the time to read it. To not do so seems disrespectful. Plain and simple.

In any event, go on feeling frustrated/annoyed. Your choice.

Btw, Just in case it wasn't understood before, I already found how to sharpen the spear (using the mister MR.fixIt function, R.click observe your char) and although I already tried searching the term before posting here, I understand the how to find it approach.

But, all of this wouldn't be needed in the first place, if the mod had a usable up to date installation/readme detailing it's major features.

Otherwise you assume that we are going to go to the 'readme files' folder (even thou it's not mentioned anywhere) and read all the readme files there, which amounts to a nicely sized book (a MEGAmod has lots of readmes), that or you created a feature that no one knows about, very unlikely to figure it out on their own and bound to ask you about it, which brings us back to you "answering the same questions over and over"

which is what I said in my last post, in either case there is no point to argue about this.

yeah, I remember this from my previous playthrough's and even looked up the devil book in a vanilla walkthrough, it says it will be found in one of these locations:

In the graveyard, just east of the church.
In the outhouse north of the Hole.
Behind a wall just southwest of the car behind Metzger's.
Beside a barrel south of the graveyard.

I just cant seem to find it there :evil:

Yeah, shame on me for not directing people to open up a folder entitled "readme files" and then telling them to read something in there. Maybe I should have called the folder "No, seriously, I really mean it: read the readme files in here, please". :roll:

And shame on me, once again, for not explicitly saying in the latest readme files* that the title of a readme file inside that folder most likely indicates some mod that was included in the MM (such as Colly mod readme, EPA readme, Abbey readme, push instructions, NPC Loot Bodies mod readme, etc.). And any new features that I just added that were not part of some other mod are mentioned in one of the other earlier Megamod x.xx readme.txt files. Or, let me guess: You want all the readme files in one file? That doesn't solve a damned thing either, because instead of 44 shorter readme files that you don't want to read, you'd have one long readme file that you wouldn't read. :roll:

*Although I did say this in the readme files from 2.35 to 2.4:
"Some people still want to know what is included in this project. For those who for some reason think it is a waste of time to read the readme files, at least look at the titles of the various readme files... it's not too difficult to figure it out then. Or, you could check out the wiki site - falloutmods.wikia.com/wiki/MIB88_Megamod."

No, there is no need to put info about new NPC's,Item's, Map's, quest's and/or dialog's. (unless you want/need to) because all those things the players can discover on their own.

But you do need to add two lines about a new feature that doesnt use any of the vanilla keys/UI that you can see by pressing F1 or expect the same questions about it over and over.

Personally I would also appreciate a little FAQ with the basic repeated questions, for example:

If you get dx9 problem either download dx9 or change in ddraw.ini to
[Graphics]
Mode=0

If you get the 'Failure initializing input devices' error change in ddraw.ini (happens for win7/vista ? )
[Input]
BackgroundKeyboard=1
BackgroundMouse=1

etc...

Btw, I had those two a year ago, when I played the restoration mod, I assume that any one playing a mod with SFall had one of those issues.
