How do you play Wasteland?

I’m a scrub when it comes to old games, Fallout 1 is I believe the oldest CRPG I’ve ever played (CRPGs aren’t the games I grew up with), however I’ve been interested in them for a while.

Anyways, this weekend I bought the Wastelnd trilogy (Wasteland Remastered, Wasteland 2, Wasteland 3), and I can’t seem to understand how to play W1. From what I see, it’s literally just a remaster from what I see in comparison to the OG, not a modern engine remake to be like W2/3 like I assumed. Wasteland 2 and 3 I’m sure I can figure out as they’re newer, but W1 seems to be completely out of my pay grade.

I don’t wanna give up on it though because I always like playing the original in a series, it’s why I didn’t give up on the Fallout originals and just stick with 3/NV.

Yo, how the fuck do you play this game lmao

I've tried both the original Wasteland 1 and the remaster and, yeah, it's a tough game to get into.
It really hasn't aged well compared to what came after it.

I'll say go into Wasteland 2, W2 is kind of a soft remake, it follows on from W1 however it has a lot of the same story elements and characters.
Things are referenced and it helps having a basic understanding of what happened in Wasteland 1, but it's more like playing New Vegas before 1&2, you'll get the reference if you played it, but not playing it won't leave you confused.

Personally, the game should have been a hard reboot, call it Wasteland and make a new trilogy from there instead of making it a sequel to 30 year old game, but that's just me.

Yeah, it's not really a fun experience.
The systems are heavily outdated and there isn't really much in the way of feedback.
It's a bit of a chore to play.

It's like playing Arena, it may have been great for the time, but there's a good reasoning for streamlining some things.

I did the most complete playthrough with a guide and a cheated character.
Even then, that wasn't easy.

Gamers are like reverse cavemen. Where the further along in gaming we get the less capable they become at grasping mechanics or genres they haven't encountered before.

The average person is regressing at almost everything. Considering that technology is assisting us with almost everything, we cease doing it ourselves.

Regression from Wasteland 1 to 2 isn't a bad thing, we've just found what works and thrown out what doesn't

I'd like to hope it might be the reverse someday, the more modern games get worse and less tedious, the more older audiences will seek out older and more complicated games. The only reason I think this is because that's my attitude towards the zeitgeist at the moment. Maybe they would be bored to death by patronizing game design and twitch reflexes serving as a barrier of entree?

What I'm trying to say is that I'm going to remake Grumpy Old Men but with gamers.
