How far to go with Ceasers Legion?

Hi again, another question.

The lucky shades you get from Ceasers Legion safehouse would really benefit and fit in with my character design.

Now, I read somewhere that to get the key to the safehouse, it is scripted that the ceasers legion dude (i forgot his name but in teh tent behind ceaser) gives it to you after completing a certain quest.

My question is, firstly is this correct?

Secondly, is it possible to go far enough to get the safehouse key, and then turn back against them and side with teh NCR, or is it impossible at this stage due to you standings?

The key to the house is held by Lucius at the Fort, and can only be obtained from him. When speaking to him, he will offer it if the player has a "Liked" or higher reputation with the Legion. He does not carry the key in his inventory, and so cannot be killed or pickpocketed for it.

And yea, you probably can still side with the NCR (at some point in the game your negative reputation for NCR / Legion gets wiped out, this is your chance to switch back to NCR), but I don't think you can get the NCR safehouse in this case.

I found a way of doing it!

There is a guy in cottonwood cove called Decanus Severus, provided you have explosives skill of 50 or more, you can talk to him, and tell him how to defuse NCR mines to get some legion fame.

Due to a scripting error, if you ask him about the NCR again, you can again tell him how to defuse mines, for more fame (and +50xp) each time, repeat this and eventually you can get idolised with legion.

Go into the fort and talk to the dude behind Ceaser and he will give you the key.

The best part is you wont get negative standings from anyone by doing this so once you have the glasses you are free to chose which side you take!
