Ok, here's the story: I have a Lite-On DVD burner that I picked up cheap last year. It worked just dandy burning and reading happily (as DVD burners often do) until a few days ago when I fed it a Traxdata DVD+R that my buddy burned for me. The drive refused to start up the disc: it would spin it up and then just stop. I just figured my buddy messed up the burn so I asked him to burn me another one. The same happened with it. In the end he just burned a third one on a DVD-R and it worked. But yesterday I got another Trax DVD+R which had some really important stuff on it, so I spent an hour and a half trying to get the bitch to work. I flashed the drive, tried slowing down the spin speed, etc. but nothing worked. Even worse, it couldn't read other DVD+R, not even the ones it burned itself.
In the end I just started abusing both the drive and the disc (as people often do in that position). You know, kicking the case, scratching the disc, etc...
The last thing I did was I foged up the disc with my breath and wiped it with a cloth. That didn't work either.
So I try it again, only this time I forget to wipe the disc, I just pop it into the drive, and lo and behold the drive starts spinning it up as if nothing happened. Swear to God. I tried it with a couple of other DVDs I had that it couldn't read and it worked every time! Weird...
