Well, I've seen a ton of posts here about how you can run around with strom and kill everyone real quick.
Sure you can do it that way.. but why is that fun?
I downloaded it, expecting a Final Fantasy Tactics-ish game in the Fallout Universe. So, I play it like that, not like the origional Fallouts (which I did truly enjoy).
The way I think about it, is Mission Impossible. Sure the AI sucks in the demo, they've already -said- that they know it sucks, and their tweaking it.
I've seen people comment about how you've got to sneak around, and such. Well, yeah - its the demo. I guess we can hope that what they've said will happen, will happen -- multiple ways of completing the mission. I personally would have liked to lie to the guards at the complex in mission 2, tell em I was a new recruit. Go to speek to the boss, assassinate him, and fight my way out. But I couldnt. So, I made the best of it - and had a blast.
I played the entire thing TB, just because I'm not the most agile of people myself. Not because CTB was unbalanced (I'm sure it is, from what people have siad), but because I literally cant play CTB..
I guess my point is. And you can take this with a grain of salt, I really dont care - I tend to ignore flames. Its been said before, but I'll say it a bit differently.
a) try and use tactics, instead of running strom in and mowing everyone down. I'm almost positive this technique wont work in final, so why rely on it now? Sneek your guys behind the sandbags, hide your sniper behind the rusted out car, sneak behind a sleeping raider and slit his throat with yer ripper (heh heh heh).
b) dont play it like an RPG. Its been said before, yes, that this is a Tactics game (much like Final Fantasy Tactics -- can you tell I liked that game? (: )-- so play it like a tactics game, with RPG elements. Yeah the demo is seriously whacked for different styles of play - but these are loose guidelines and I can only pray that they'll hold true to the release.
c) after downloading it, sit for a few minutes and clear your mind of what the other Fallouts were like, in terms of combat and interaction. You -cant- do combat in this game like you can in the other Fallout games, and I think this is a problem a lot of people are griping about.
d) for christs sake, go through the tutorials! all of them. I downloaded it, was like, "what the heck, I dont need a tutorial." then I thought again. Would they really put 3 or so different tutorials in, if people didnt need them? A lot of people I've seen are griping about how the game isnt controlled exactly like the other fallout games. This is why theres a tutorial!
As for the right-click-to-attack, I kinda liked it, especially with my grenidier in the second mission. I mean, it worked real nice for taking out the raider leader. crouch behind a sandbag, set your grenades as current weapon, and right click over there, if you know they're there (that greenish shadow thing - I assume that means that one of your characters can hear them), and boom, you usually got em.
Sorry for writing such a long post, I just thought a couple people could benefit from it. If you didnt enjoy the demo, try going back and playing it again according to these.. In some cases yes tactics arent needed, but its just damn fun to set up two of your shotgun guys behind sandbags, put your sniper guy up on a platform out of the action, and sneak your SMG guy around the corner. A lot more fun than just going in with SMG blazing, imho (:
of course, if you like that kind of thing, dont let me stop you. Just a little something for some of the people who feel as if something's missing, just cause you can run strom in and pump everyone full of SMG goodness.
