HUGE Caravan Problem (Not the typical ones)

Hello,

I couldn't find anything on the net about MY specific problem with the caravans, but I am not able to participate on either caravan. Whenever I'm hired and I click on something like "let's go", that's where the mission should usually start, the short loading time will occur and when that's done the whole areal turns black. I've got hexes, the HUD and my characters on screen, but they are caught on a "black map" and I have to load since there are no exit grids.

In the past (like 4 years ago) I could travel with either caravan. I don't know what's wrong with my Fallout now, since i haven't installed any patches, mods or whatsoever.

Any ideas?
 
Sounds like your missing a map file to me (at least thats what I assume whenever I use a mod that doesn't work). Is this in FO2 or FO1 and by not having used any patches does this mean that you haven't even installed the official ones?
 
No, still using the original game. But I could install those patches if they fixed the problem. Don't know what it means, but my "maps" folder in the fallout directory is empty, but I don't have any trouble loading other maps.

EDIT: Now that I have downloaded the fan-made 1.05 patch and its update I finally have some map files in the "maps " folder. The caravan ones, however, where nowhere to be found since the whole caravan thing still doesn't work. I dunno why I don't have any map files in my folder, but I received the CD from a friend since mine was missing and I have the chosen the hugest installation...

Does someone know where to get the mapfiles from? If you could somehow send them to me I would greatly appreciate that since that game is one of the best that have ever been made and I miss the funny caravans, although buggy...
 
Ughh...I would send em, but I've got a modified Fallout vrs. UK and megamod 2.1 updates.

How about trying this: install the game (humongus installation) again on a diffrent hard drive, and copy paste the maps in to your original directory.

The caravans shouldn't be a problem, since the maps generate when traveling with the said caravan. So they shouldn't be somewhere, they're random generated.
 
I have only one hard drive, but I can barely test the caravaning when I have to start a new game. Will take me some time. also, I don't know what it would change to have another directory. Somehow, something is missing with my game or is strangely modified so maps in the map folder are not really needed to play the game. Other random encounter work, but the caravans...
 
Bad people. File requests are against the rules.

Have you even tried re-installing?
 
Oh, I'm sorry. Just was desperate. Well, no map files on the CD either. Somehow these are stored elsewhere.
 
Oh well, okay.

I don't know what else to do, but I am really desperate since I LOVED the caravan traveling for some reason - did "pistol only", "melee only" and many other runs. Was kinda fun back then.

Well, If you know another solution, please post it or mail to christian.simon1@freenet.de or ICQ 126051179 or whatever. Dunno what's wrong with my friend's CD. He doesn't know himself
 
You shouldn't normally have anything in the maps folder, since they reside in master.dat. Mods put maps in the map folder to override the normal ones. To see if something is wrong with your master.dat, try copying it from the cd manually. The computer should complain if it's corrupted.
