What's the deal with them? Am I going to get in trouble for hosing them down? Am I going to *have* to go into Turn-Based Mode so I can just shoot the raiders while leaving the civilians alone?
What gives?

Thanks in advance

Civies=Speedbumps.

If they attack you then they are viable targets... If they get in your way, well, their fault for getting inbetween two groups armed with machine guns...

Basicly, they are fodder.

Some of those civilians are wielding up to 12 Molotov Cocktails and sometimes they can actually hurt your guy pretty bad. Thankfully, the explosives are nowhere as good as let's say JA2 or my guy would be toast meat.

In Wartime, and civilian attempting armed resistence considered a guierilla and therefore excempt from Geneva convention laws... So you less likely to "get in trouble" for executing a civilian in this case... Plus, you can do it cruel and unusual way. :)

I personally wish that, like in FO2, the enemy could turn from red to yellow and flee for their worthless life - I sleep much better when I promote peace and love through the desert, lesson that is hard to learn when you are cut in ribbons...

How I almost dealt with it ...

I restarted the mission and actually was able to get through the first batch of civilians without hurting any of them, all the while taking out the occasional raider among them. The ones on the roof were no problem to avoid, but there's one guy who's on the ground and chases you through the old town hall. I managed to sneak away from him after throwing the switch in front of the hall, but when I started shooting at the next batch of raiders he heard it and came running. At one point I lured him off to a secluded area of the map with one character and punched him until I got the 'K.O.' result. Hooray! My problems were solved - and no civilians were to die. Raiders, raiders, more raiders ... oh, crap! A whole *new* batch of civilians appeared with attack dogs mixed in, no less. They charged up en masse, throwing bombs and rocks and punching like mad.

At this point I just lost all patience and went back to aggressive sentry mode. I even went back to the town hall and finished off anybody who dared to continue hostilities (which was, of course, all of them).

I, too, think it would've been neat to drive them off by firing into the air ... but, despite all their protestations, the fact is that they were doing their damndest to kill me. Their damndest just wasn't very good.

They just pushed me a little too far.

Damn proud of you son...

And all them damned senators are trying to ban violence in video games - glad to see that with all the right to kill everything in its path, some members still take nesessary steps to do what's right... Of course you don't hear that on the news.
