I am getting TO' UP

lmao

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Always my problem with the early part of Fallout games (and Bethesda games, for that matter)...I get my ass done beat every few steps. It seems particularly brutal in FO:NV. Everywhere I go, scorpions I can barely harm, mosquitos that rip me apart.

Where are you guys spending your early game?

I've done one quest so far (helping Ringo in Goodsprings.)

As far as I've heard, you shouldn't leave the main street or so and instead do the first few quests you get. Running around in the wilderness can get you dead fast.

I haven't found it too bad, you just have to play the fights really lame by back peddling while you shoot. The cazadars are the worst because they can realistically kill you in 1-3 hits (well, if you're on very hard anyway).

Don't forget the armor icon that shows up beside the enemy health bar if the bullets you're using are weak against their armor.

I'm like that as well. Tried one way, giant radscorpions were impervious to bullets. Then tried going up the valley, giant mosquito stings me once and i drop dead. Third time, i see a sign that says "Beware Deathclaws" and i figure i should just finish Goodsprings :P Compared to those scorpions, the Powder Gangers are ridiculously easy.

Just keep walking that road to Primms. The NCR dudes can be a bit tough, but it's not bad otherwise.

That said, are they supposed to attack you??

NCR shouldnt unless you have done something to piss them off, when you go to Primm you should talk to one who gives you a quest.

Is Ringo an unmarked quest as I spoke to the Saloon owner about him and forgot where she said he was and checked my pipboy and there was nothing in there about it?

I reloaded and it is fine now. I guess they jumped on me cause I was wearing bandit armor.

As for the quest, it's unmarked until you talk to the guy. As they tell you, he's at the gas station, next to the Doctor's house.

Cheers it was late and I wasnt really paying attention as had to go to bed for work, will go back there later.

If you stray away from the path you will get slaughtered more often than not. I had a Giant Radscorpion chase me all the way into Nipton before I evaded it.

Also, if you meet Jackal Gang Members - they HURT. You have to be smart when fighting them, abusing cover and lobbing explosives/Incinerator blobs/what have you.

You mean I can't just walk wherever I darn well please at first level and have a reasonable expectation of living? The nerve! :P

I think I am level 9 right now and near that river the Lakelurkers (or whatever those green basterds are cold) are DESTROYING me.

In all fairness, I was running to Arefu for the Blood Ties quest at level 4 in my first FO3 playthrough and for some reason the game thought it was okay to randomly spawn a Super Mutant Brute at the drive-in theater. I got destroyed by a missile launcher and couldn't do a lick of damage with my 10mm pistol :P

But, yes, the way FO1/2/NV do level scaling, i.e. no scaling outside of the main quests, makes more sense for the sake of immersion, the sense of advancement, and most importantly fun.

Your facts and fairness have no place here! This is a religious war!
But seriously, I would agree that F3's level scaling was not as broken as some others (ahem,Oblivion, looking at you), it's nice to see a true return to the idea that there are some places you REALLY SHOULDN'T GO YET.

If they are hte same radscorpions of Fallout 3... those bastard can survive 2 Rocket Launcher shots, which is retarded ¬¬

I miss FO1/2 radscorpions, that took 3 shots of 10mm and died T_T

I'd more hope for an in between. I can understand a 250 lb armored tank of a bug w/ giant claws and a stinging tail requiring more than 3 shots from a hand gun unless you have sick gun skills and place all shots to vital locations. Think if you tried using a hand gun to take out a polar bear...with plate mail.

That said, I also would be glad to see many of the more powerful guns, really be more powerful. Some giant plasma cannon, a rocket launcher, or a large rifle (when hitting to a weaker point like the head/eye) should 1 shot almost any unarmored enemies.

Basically, I want lethal weapons to be leathal and crap ass weapons to get your ass punked if you swing it a some giant monster. I recently saw a pic of the player connecting with a golf club to the face of a guy carrying a hand gun. Unless lots of sneaking was involved, I don't like seeing that. Running at an armed enemy while wearing a cloth vault suit and swinging a golf club should merit the player a shot between the eyes and a game over screen - its just stupid.

The radscoprions in this game don't fuck around, they will put the fear of god in you.

Holy Jesus, this. I was wandering around some area in the south and saw a small radscorpion, which I attacked. Killed it, but that aggro'd a regular-sized one, which took a lot longer.

Then I ran into a giant radscorpion.

Holy fuck.

Thing has a DT of about 1,000. Nothing put a dent in it. Once I recruited Boone, I was able to take them, but it's still really hard.

The ants are still pretty easy, though.

They just have thick armor. Use AP bullets, shotguns work wonders...

And with some perks unlocked later they are an easy match. Just get the correct perks.

Problem for the player is that, as a shooter, enemies can only be so powerful before the game becomes unplayable and annoying. Combat isn't tactical like in the first two Fallout games - dodging ranged attacks is a lot more difficult and sometimes impossible, and endlessly respawning enemies means you can't game the system by preparing too much for specific encounters. Endless save/reload that is more or less beyond my control is not my idea of fun.

You're right, there does need to be good balancing for the combat system to work. But it's a 6 six long scorpion, maybe they should treat a 6 ft armored death machine is a late game enemy for when we've got better weapons and armor (okay so really sounds like they kind of have).

As to the question of ramping up gun damage to a more immediately leathal level (as in 2-3 shots and you're done)...I honesly think that could be managed. Guns would have to be a little more rare (thus more bandits have clubs, bats, or bows), but even more so the scripting for NPCs and enemies would need to be changed. Only the most violent of charcters should shoot at you immediately. Bandits could perhaps be driven off be a warning shot or just be seeing that I've got a huge rifle and he's outmatched. Others could try intimidation, where they come up, make a threat and demand something you are wearing or they will attack. If combat were really that onerous, maybe you entenionally wear crap items during generic travels to bride off the better equiped road vandals. Then quests which involve combat become much more tactical and less running through a door with guns blazing, popping occasional stim packs, and being done.
