Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
untill saturday i had always been running my computer on my 28 gig ide to boot. well it died so i plugged in my SCSI 320 card and plugged in my first 36 gig scsi drive and tried to install.

after about a total of 25-27 hours of trying to get windows to install without needing the win2k cd in the drive, i finally figure out how to get it to work.

a) take card + drive to my brothers computer
b) plug them in
c) boot up
d) install win2k on his computer
e) unplug card and drive
f) plug into my computer
g) install win2k on top of the old install without formatting
h) get pissed off at the constant lockups when windows is booting up at the little black bars at the bottom.

it appears that my motherboard has serious issues dealing with this stuff. it seems like it cannot write to a MBR and has issues reading one also. i did try to use one of my IDE drives but it had the same problem there.

oh... i even went as far as to make a win98se boot disk and sys an ide drive and it seems like it would successfully complete the sys command 1 out of every 5-6 times, but at no time was the drive bootable.

maybe the motherboard is damaged

because you tried an ide drive and the problem still happens

try using the other ide port
