Hi all.
I'm sorry to do this to you, but I've got a problem with Fallout Tactics and I've been trying to get help at gamefaqs.com. The board there is near dead with maybe a message every 2 days on average so I've been pretty much posting to myself hoping someone will see it and help me.
I say I'm sorry because I'm gonna dump all my babbling here and hope someone can help me - I don't want to start over since I might miss information so here is the stuff I've been posting on gamefaqs:
POST1
I'm sure most of you know about the secret mission "Springfield." Well I've played it years ago when I used to play Tactics and now that I've just put it back on I can't get it again. I had on an old DVD a word file explaining how to activate it, but it doesn't make sense.
It says I have to run the game at least once so that a file called "bos.cfg" which appears in the core folder of Fallout Tactics. You are meant to find the line "{misc.bonusMission} = {false}" and change it to true.
Well the problem is that the game has not created this file in the Fallout 2 directory under the "core" folder. I certainly don't get it because you'd think it would just screw up the game since this file held additional data other than the bonus level activation.
Is it in a different folder? It's been years since I've done it so maybe my info is wrong - I have to get it soon otherwise I'll pass the mission which leads onto the bonus level and I'll skip over it. Has anyone done it recently or remember what they used to do to get the secret level activated on Fallout Tactics?
POST2
looked through my Fallout Tactics files and it seems that pretty much none of the files which are added as you play the game are going to that directory. I'm guessing vista has some stupid place it's sending them to and crappy vista search is turning nothing up. My save files are not in the Tactics folder so I'm guessing everything is going somewhere.
Not to worry though, I found an .exe which actually installs the bonus level the way it was intended (I didn't even know there was ever a proper way to access the level - I always thought for whatever strange reason you had to alter the data in the bos.cfg file). I said the level was installed so I'll assume all is okay.
So long story short, I have made this topic very quickly and written a lot of crap only to have the problem solved within minutes.
POST3
Wow, I'm back again. lolz. Okay now I'm still having problems because I have no idea where they actually got installed to. I'm not sure if it was successful so I don't wanna go half way through the second bunker missions to found out it screwed up. The fact that vista has been screwing with my files makes me worry that the installing the bonus level might have screwed up too.
The file also installed a Pen and Paper RPG and I have no idea where it is (the clever readme tells you nothing about it, useless ****). If I found the Pen and Paper RPG I'd be pretty confident it installed the bonus level too - but I have no idea where it is which pisses me off further.
The file came from the Fallout boxset (which has all three PC games) in the bonus content - I have the original Tactics but I used this boxset DVD since I've got it now (bought it a few days ago since it was cheap). So if anyone knows where the damn thing actually installs to that would be helpful.
If you are wondering why I don't just do the mission before Springfield opens and save at the end to check if the bonus mission has been activated, I'm on Tough Guy mode and I don't wanna do an entire mission only to find out I have to find another way to get Springfield on and then re-do the entire mission.

I hope someone browses through this at some point.
Anyway, update. My brother also started a game - he plays a lot more than me and he isn't on Tough Guy Mode so he could save at the end of the mission before Springfield can be played (according to a gamefaqs FAQ it is available after finishing Quincy at the Beta bunker) and... no Springfield. No goddamn ******* Springfield. At first I was annoyed and now I'm just plain pissed off.
I don't know what the **** is going on so I'm definitely going to need outside help. All I can guess is that Windows Vista is a piece of **** and is putting files in folders other than those which it should (supported by the fact that things like my saves folder in the game directory are empty).
So the current situation is that I can't find the bos.cfg folder to put the level on manually and the bonus application which came with the Fallout series boxset is failing to install and add the level. If anyone has had a similar problem please tell me how, I'm getting desperate. Otherwise any smart-cookies out there who know a bit about computers could throw some ideas around as to how I can get this **** to work. Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance to any nma users who can give some ideas of how to get this level fixed (and get this pen and paper rpg to work) or even better someone who knows exactly how to fix the problem.
