I don't geddit

Neo911

First time out of the vault
I got me a new pc, so I decided, move all my computer stuff from one to another, moving all my F2 save games etc. I am trying to install the game, and I keep geiiing the message 'Couldn't initialize the input system. Please try rebooting your computer.' So i thought, ok and did so, but nothing happened. WTF?

Any ideas? I'm using Windows XP home and i want my mummy :( :lightning:

Tonight would be the 3rd day i've tryed to get it to work, each time trying 5-6 times, same message...

shoot me...

*shoots Neo*

Happy now.

There might be something setup wrong with Windows, not the game. That's what it looks like to me. Check to make sure you have all the drivers set up for your input devices (mouse, keyboard, and gamepad/joystick).

Just in case I'm wrong, download some patches if you haven't done so already.

I have patches and stuff, I just can't install the game to play them on...

Okay, I have absolutely no idead why mine works, but yours doesn't.

First off, is it a legal copy? Mine is, and I run winXP home on a 2.4 Ghz Celeron. Never had a problem after patches.

Second, try running DXDIAG, see if it shows any problems.

Third, input device, I'm thinking mouse. If you have a special/cool mouse installed, switch to default mouse.

That's about all I can think of right now. Try these and post results, maybe with more info I can help more.

I got it to work!!!

I just got annoyed and clicked it alot.

(whats the point in merk or sommat in ncr?)

ok

I get the same fucking error when i try to start the game... I have tried everything. I might kill myself for fun... I loved Fallout 2

To begin with, WinXP Home sucks ass. I use WinXP Pro and it seldom gives me that kind of trouble

Anyway, I got this error the other day, but I've little idea what could be the cause. Try using a different type of mouse, for example if you use a PS/2 mouse try borrowing an USB mouse and use it instead.

'Input device' would seem to indicate that either the mouse or keyboard is the key. But given that the error appeared without my tinkering with those, I'm at a loss and can only suggest that you try and run Dxdiag, try increasing virtual memory / swap file size (lot's of "error initializing" messages are caused by insufficient memory) or try to close all the unneccessary apliccations and processes prior to running Fallout2.exe

or visit www.allegro.pl and buy an old Pentium for the sole purpose of running Fallout ;) (I myself keep an old 486 for the sole purpose of running MS-DOS games with no trouble :) )
