I don't know how to install mods correctly, please help.

Hi I'm new here and I just don't know how to install mods on my Fallout 1 game. I plan to dl and try some FO2 mods on FO2 but I have a feeling that installing those mods presents the same problem.

When I tried to dl the file f1_npc_mod_eng.rar which allows your npc in FO1 to have armor from the link provided by nma, win xp was saying it was a "Microsoft picture it!" file (the file was named dload.php)

So I dl'd the file directly from the source: http://mynah.nm.ru/f1_npc_mod_eng.rar

But I don't know what to do next. I don't know how to install it.
Can anyone inform me how to install these .rar files appropriately in my Fallout 1 directory? I don't know where these files go. I didn't find a readme on installation of these mods.

Sorry if its lame that I don't know how to install mods but I'm new to this.

The simplest way to install this mod is to unpack archive with WinRAR directly to the Fallout folder. You must do that with option to extract files with pathnames. And also you should answer 'Yes to all' for file overwrite request.

But it's strongly recommended to install unofficial patch v1.3 beta BEFORE the mod. You could find the link in the 'F1 NPC mod' thread.

What browser are you using?
 
Apparently you clicked SAVE AS on a link that linked to the DOWNLOAD SITE, not the DOWNLOAD itself.

Try it again and wait until you get a download popup by clicking a link.
If that gives you another PHP file, something's wrong.

Otherwise, try renaming the file to "f1_npc_mod_eng.rar" and open that. If it claims to be a corrupted archive, that means you're stupid. If you don't know what to open it with, that means your dog is stupid and your intelligence is below that of your dog.
 
Being sort of on topic, does anyone know where you can download the Fallout 2 Mod runner, i can't seem to find it in the downloads section.
