I have never played Madden in my entire life.

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
A few weeks ago, even though I have lived in the US my entire life, I decided to give in and learn/watch American football.

This was a great desicion because this sport has so much more going for it than I imagined. :D

So, I naturally got interested in the Madden franchise. I had heard about it(mostly from EA haters who dislike all the sequels) but never played it...

So, which Madden should I get for my 360? Madden 11 or Madden 10? I want to start with Madden as it is the more popular than NCAA videogames and easier to find than the ol' Take 2 games....

Thanks.. :)

As European, I never liked American football - thought it was a slow, uninspired game driven mainly by violence.

Then I was in New Zealand where I met a bunch of cool guys from Oregon. They insisted they'd teach me the rules and we played a bunch of games on the beach (Point Break style). Probably the most fun I've ever had in a ball game. I had to take it all back.

So I'd like to add a question to OP: is there a good Football game for PC? If so, which title is the best for a n00b?

Due to a total lack of competition, Madden's the only football game out there. And there's not much difference between Madden 10 and Madden 11. Madden 11 is slightly more polished and had a few annoying things fixed, plus the rosters are up to date.

So yeah, try Madden 11.

As for PC, Madden '07 was the last Madden released for PC, so you should probably try that.

You've learned American Football in a country that's known for it's national sport: Rugby?

I understood what you've said. I just had to make that comment

Yeah, the irony is not lost on me ;)

Actually '08 was the last PC release (I have it :) ).

As Sander pointed out, EA has exclusivity contracts that make Madden the only game in town when it comes to NFL football. The lack of competition has had the predictable result of making EA lazy when it comes to improving the game.

On the other hand, it's NFL football -- so it's fun. If you've never played it before, get the newest version.

Thanks for the advice!

One more question though:

What about the NCAA football games? How good are they? Comparable to Madden?

I've never played them, although I've heard good things. I remember reading posts on fansites from people who liked NCAA '10 better than Madden '10. I wouldn't take my word for it, though, since I really don't know what I'm talking about. :D

Ah, ok. I guess it's smarter to go with the big franchise when you are kinda clueless about the genre so...

Madden NFL 11 HERE I COME!!!

(in a couple of weeks when I actually get time to play it)

Probably a good idea. Since you've never played it before, I'm sure you'll have a blast. My cynicism about Madden mainly comes from seeing a lack of improvement over time. They sell the same game year after year with an up-to-date roster, a few graphical improvements, and some minor bug fixes.

Im not really into football, the last and only madden i had was madden 03 I think.

Anyway, A friend of mine reccomends the NCAA games as better than the NFL ones, because the college players arent as good, so the games themselves become more dynamic.

IE, you can't rely on just throwing the ball to "The Bus" every play, or whoever the star of the team is.

Madden 94 for snes is the only madden game I have played, therefore it is the best one.

Madden games have their entertainment. The last one I think I played was Madden '04 (for PC), where I would consistently run 50+ yard touchdowns on a fake field goal play. Ah, what a great exploit that game had (and others too I believe).

As the last Madden version for the PC platform, 08 has a pretty active modding community. There are some really snazzy player and playbook editors, and it's easy to find relatively current rosters (including updated player portrait graphics). I've also seen user-made 2011 and 2012 draft classes for use in Franchise mode.
