First time out of the vault
I decided to play fallout 2 again, i haven't played in years. and i just completed the boxing quest, but this time my ear was torn off by the masticator (sp). i don't remember it being torn off before, and it says it could be a "special item". i think i'm getting my ear and the toe confused. I guess my question is, does the ear do anything ? thanks.

I'm not sure if it LOWERS your Charisma. When it happened to me I think I gained a charisma point. Results may vary I guess, but I'm not 100% sure.

Per Per's walkthrough:
If you have about 115 HP or fewer and the Masticator hits you, you may get the message "In the heat of the fight, the Masticator tears your ear off." If you look in your inventory you'll now have a Player's Ear item... and your CH drops by 1 permanently. This is not so good, so you should probably do what the game says and reload. If you keep fighting, though, and have Unarmed at about 160% or higher, you may end up with a Masticator's Ear as well - vengeance is sweet! No use for it, I'm afraid. In the unpatched version losing your ear could give you a bonus to your CH, because the command to change the stat was being used incorrectly.

It's just one of those funny details (easter egg?) that refers, of course, to that Mike Tyson guy, who bit of a piece of his opponents ear at one time.

Someone said (I think it was Chris Avellone, or JE Sawyer) that he thought there were too many easter eggs in Fallout 2. I disagree to that statement, I found it highly entertaining. :)
