I think the demo and CTB rocks!

I thought the demo was great fun. Obviously this game is not a RPG nor was it designed for TB play. I think CTB is totally the way to go. Even though I was a HUGE fan of Fallout 2, I don't see what is supposed to be so great about turn based gameplay...If you ask me it's much more exciting to see multiple characters shooting all at once in a big gunfight than to sit there waiting for the computer to make its move. And multiplayer TB? forget about it!
Also, I disagree with people who say it is a "Clickfest". I'm not even sure what that really means, but I assume they are implying that it's too much like an arcade game and it requires "Mad skillz" or something to play well. This game requires no manual dexterity or eye hand coordination to play well.

Well, I played mission 1 first in TB, then i went thru it again in CTB mode. For some reason, by the end of the mission, i had lost all my guys except "Blastoid"..one of the shotgun guys. Why? I think its because im too used to TB, and i let things get out of control..with the interface being awkward as it is, sometimes i had my guy RUN at the enemy instead of attacking him because i clicked the wrong button. Another time, "Storm" got up and started running while getting killed..just because i forgot to press the shift button (i dont use 'smart run'). I think the reason that people think of the game as a clickfest is due to the mistakes they are liable to make during the frenzied combat..you have to think and act quickly and accordingly to each event instead of enjoying the game and soaking in the atmosphere. For example, you encounter a raider in CTB..your characters shoot him a few times, all of a sudden he runs away and hides behind the corner so that only one of your characters is in his line of sight. In order so save that one character, you have to quickly relocate the others so they can also attack the raider...if you wait too long, hell pick him off. I think that many people like that kind of gameplay, but i dont. What they're attempting to do is pretty tough..to implement both-TB, and "real-time" into the same game. Its not the same having to move one guy at a time instead of having 2 of them sneak up on some one from both sides simultaneously.. I think they can pull it off tho..
What they're doing to this game, it's like turning chess into real-time. It's rediculous.

I really disagree with you. I think that having a ton of guy's fighting it out is awesome. Nothing cooler thanm a ton of guys being slaughtered as your guys rip em' to pieces. I did like the TB, but it seemed to take to long when you were fighting more then 3 opponents. I would just sit there and watch, what the hell! My guys would get blown up and I would have to watch?! Shitty.

RE: Actually..

My guys would get blown up in CTB..because i wasnt able to react accordingly (and in time) to some of the events that took place. In TB, on the other hand, i would think that it would be easier to keep your party from being torn to shreds when you have more time to evaluate situations as they unfold...i think thats why they're going to add that pause feature..(and then, other things come to mind..and thats a whole other matter to argue over)

RE: Actually..

Funny, I can win both mission with Strom alone in Real Time mode. It's so easy, it's sick. I didn't even bother sneaking or crouching, I just moved him near the enemy with him set to aggressive and burst mode. Keep checking the dead bodies for ammo, and that's about it.

RE: Actually..

hehe..if its that easy, change the game difficulty to "insane" if you havent already..thats what i did in the beginning..its much more realistic..i cant imagine it on the low levels..i dont think you can do the one-man thing on the "insane" difficulty mode..my guys get killed in 2-4 shots from snipers ...not to mention burst.. I had to be careful not to get in the line of fire, because if some one is caught, they get half their life taken off..

RE: Finally..

Finally ppl began to understand what I been saying these past few days. I never had a chance to do a one man show cause I tuned up the difficulty to insane. No clickfest, just plain tacties to complete the mission.

Shade or ghost is defintely one of the important guys next to Storm or Bulleyes and Deadshot. They scout the area, hide and watch the enemy movement for me then I plan and killed the enemies.

RE: Actually..

You cetainly are skilled. Mind explaing to me how you accomplished such a feat in the second mission. In particular how you defeated the snipers nest past the thick metal doors? Something about running Strom at three entrenched snipers and having him mercilessly slaughter them all seems... questionable.

RE: With a bit of luck...

Put Shade in sneak mode then crawl over to the nearest building and make sure to hug the wall at all times until u see the green shadow of the enemies there. Move Storm and Deadshot the same way then use Doc as a decoy to lure one of the enemy out. The plan is the ambush u learn in the tutorial. Use as many guys u want.

Clear them then repeat The sneaking until u get to the bunker's door. If done in TB, it should be easy, fire, dodge and repeat.
If in RT, then sneak and chose storm and repeat the above but u have to click faster to dodge the bullets.

I'm sure u leveled up so put emphasis on small guns and sneak. As for Shade, sneak, small guns and lockpick. The rest is up to u. With a bit of luck, I'm sure u can do it. Plus I never beat the mission on insane cause the 12th part of the mission is way too hard.

No luck to it.

He's asking how I did it with Strom alone, Willie.

The answer is simple, you get 10 or so stimpacks before even opening those steel doors. You can leave your inventory open during a fight once you have Strom in place. Opening the inventory requires no APs in FOT, so you can open and close it whenever you want.

If health gets close to low, double click on a stimpack. The animation only delays the return fire for a second.

RE: No luck to it.

That could work. I ended up using those stimpacks on people that I accidently when right clciking. That right click force fire thing seems a bit awkward to me.

It's called real-time. That kind of gameplay is best seen in Star Craft or Command and Conquer.

A "tactical" game must make use of some kind of turn-based system, something that lets you plot out your tactics. Otherwise, the tactical element is lost. Look at X-Com: Apocalypse. Playing it Real-Time really ruins the tactical element, making it more like Star Craft.

The best compromise I've seen between turn-based and real-time is still Combat Mission. I don't know about FO:T, since I haven't played it yet, but if I were to play this game I'd personally go for a turn-based game, not a real-time game.

I'm disappointed to hear that the FO:T team decided to try to merge TB and CTB. It's ridiculous. When I see something like that, my first reaction is to accuse the designer of trying to cater to the RTS market (which in recent years has grown bigger than the turn-based crowd).

It's design philosophy like this which contributes to the demise of turn-based games.
