If I reformat PS3 HDD then reinstall FNV will SaveGame work?

First time out of the vault
As subject asks: if i reformat my PS3 HDD using the corresponding option in the PS3 menu then let my PS3 update itself back up to system software 4.20 (the most recent one which my ps3 is at, sony released it like 3 days ago as of this post), pop in my FNV game disc, let it install nice and easy, re-download from PSN the only two DLC's i've bought which are OWB and HH and (obviously) install them, then load up the game...

Will i be able to load up my save game no probs? I ask because i already had to start over due to my previous ps3 dying, and i REALLY don't want to lose my progress; but my game's been freezing (not lagging, just plain ol' HARD LOCKING) and i was thinking the best way to deal with this might be to just reformat the ps3 hdd, install fnv again and redownload my two DLC's again, then start a new game, hit start and then LOAD my save game (which obviously i have backed up on a usb pendrive and transferred BACK to the ps3 before starting the game...)

I would REALLy appreciate thoughts and input on this! Maybe I'll just DELETE the FNV game data and let the game disc reinstall, but why not just do a complete reformat, eh? I literally have NO OTHER GAME DATA ON MY PS3. It's basically just a dedicated FNV machine.

That won't really guarantee you less issues with the game though and I'm not sure reformatting would work like that anyway. How often are the freezes are occurring because they happen quite a lot anyway? The PS3 is probably the worst system to play these games on due to it's memory issues, so not a whole lot can be done. Sorry if that didn't help much.
