ok, help me out here:

I have Jo (barter - 65%)
Shes getting ridiculously bad deals, but no big deal, i have enough cash. BUT theres something weird going on as regards armor. All my squad have AC of 21-26 with Leather Armor Mk2, but after one mission the QM had Metal Armor, so i bought 2 sets (for like $4000) and my AC went DOWN to 21 from 26! Jo sold it back (both sets) for $400!

After Mardin, i found Metal Armor Mk2, and Jo bought one set for
$4300, and her AC dropped 5 points! She sold it back for $500, losing $3500 in 10 seconds, just so she could try the damn stuff on!!

Now i wont dare even try buying the Enviro Armor after the next mission, cos its like throwing big bucks away.

Also, theres no restocking it seems, even tho i just moved to gamma base, theres no more shotgun shells, even tho i have Neostads now, and hardly any 30.06, even tho i have 4 Garands :-(

There are no big guns either, i had a rocket launcher, but there isnt a single rocket for sale anywhere! So basically his entire stock consists of stuff i sold cos i didnt want it anyway!

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jun-09-02 AT 12:54PM (GMT)[p]That's the way it has been with bartering in all of the Fallouts. 65% is not a great barter skill. If you want to try, save the game before you buy the armor and then reload if you don't like it. All armor has some penalty but then there is a bonus for wearing it too. Most everything can be found by going through the inventory of the enemies so you really don't need to buy much. The only things I end up buying are gauss ammo, shotgun shells, and maybe some 7.62 ammo if I'm running low.

Ammo is scarce and some is very difficult to find so don't use it like water. You do get some new things added to the QM inventory after every mission. Check the campaign.txt file to see a breakdown of what is added.

Well, sure, but i have played F2 6 times, and never seen an item drop in value 600% when you trade it back 10 secs after buying it! Even halved values are rare, and in FO and F2, i never EVER put a single skill point into bartering. Ive made Jo take 49 skill pts! Kind of figured small guns and melee were priority over shopping...

The thing i was more curious about is the progression of armor...surely metal is sposed to be better than leather, and metal mk 2 better still? why do the guides recommend trading up if it lowers my AC?? Not just mine either but my squads...its not like we all have the same stats.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jun-09-02 AT 10:07PM (GMT)[p]I am not sure how the formula works out, but the Armor Class number does not tell the full story. It relates to the protection afforded from several different types of attacks. Look below it at the armor's protection for normal, fire, gas, explode, energy, and electrical attacks. Now when I am adding enemies to a level I am creating, I sometimes take a civilian and bump up their AC in the entity editor. I believe this gives them equal protection from all types of attacks. I don't want them to look like they have armor but still want to make them harder to kill.

I would base the armour I use based on what types of attacks I am expecting. Not necessarily on the generic AC.

And as for the bartering, again I am not sure how the calculations are made but I know that the quartermaster can have a high barter skill. If his skill is higher than yours, I think he can still have the upper hand. Generally if what you are selling is unique, it will have a higher value. If you sell the same kind of gun to him often enough, it's value will drop even though your barter skill may be high. So it is usually best to hold on to one type of gun until you have a lot of them and then seel them to him.

AC is how well you can evade in that armor. Metal Armor has always had very low AC, ever since FO1, because it's very heavy and usually not particularly well put together. Enviro Armor has better AC, and Power Armor better still. I don't know why, because it's huge, but it does have all those hydraulics.
