I'm going to Costa Rica

Squall

First time out of the vault
This September I'm going to be in Costa Rica and I'm going to be helping out a group of doctors there for a few weeks. It costs $1000, and I'm paying my own way, I can hardly wait, it will be the experience of a lifetime. I'm getting my passport and everything now so I'll be ready. I'm not getting paid to do any of this, and I'm going to be eating the same food as the locals, it's not going to be a vacation either, I'm going to be working for a good 12-14 hours a day. Of course, once I come back I'll be sure to share my experience with everyone here. The only other country I've ever been to is Jonathanland, and I reckon this will be a vastly different experience than visiting a first-world city-state. Anyone have any words of advice?

I like this well-educated and non-biased post.

You people are obviously all about the love.

Have a good time and try to get to the beaches. I hear they are awesome.

Because you're on the terrorist no-fly list?

I am from South America, my advice is that you must be careful of the centaurs, krakens and winged vipers. It's full mythological monsters on this side of the Atlantic. Plenty of gold as well, 'though.

Now seriously. You say you're gonna be helping some doctors so I am sure you will be doing good actions and not see Costa Rica from the "lolo I'm a tourist from the civilized first world - wanna take a photo of these people with strange skin color" point of view. But still, the Internetz keep showing me interesting stuff about what foreigners think about this side of the world.

Best of luck in your journey, hope it offers lots of experiences :)
