I'm screwed!

I have been playing Fallout 1 for a few days and I just attacked some guards outside of the Hub. I saved over all my save game files except one in Shady Sands in my vault-tech suit, I DO NOT WANT TO START OVER! ARRGGH!

What can I do?

I think I'm screwed!

If I go into the Hub all the guards start attacking me!

Can I still play the game normally with all the guards dead?

It's a little tricky because hostility can be recorded both globally (settlement) and locally (each individual guard) and I don't know if there are any Fo1 save editors that can help with this (in Fo2 you would be able to turn off the global hostility at least). It's quite possible you could kill them and just lose out on a little stuff relating to the Sheriff.
