Important! Looking for a book for my thesis!

Treupp

First time out of the vault
Hi guys.

This is very important since the book I'm looking for is crucial for completing my thesis and I'm unable to find it anywhere.

it's:

Stanislaw Lem - Mortal Engines.

Actually, I need a certain extract from one of the stories included in it (The "How Erg the Self-inducting Slew a Paleface" to be exact), as well as the name of the guy who translated the book, place and date of publication and the publisher.

It's a book by Polish author, but the problem is, I need an English version. Please, if you own it or know where could it be acquired from (Amazon is out of the question, I only have 30 days left), send me a PM.

Thanks in advance!

All I can tell you is that it was translated by Michael Kandel in 1977. And it was published by Harvest Books on May 15, 1992 in San Diego: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich.
Just as this site and several others claim.

There is some more info there, as well.

But I guess you found out this stuff by yourself on google already. -Meh, I just need some posts, shesh!

PS: I'll go and check my library, but the chances are:
1.There won't be such a book
2.If there is one, it'll be in Slovak/Czech

Thanks dude for your efforts, but yeah, I already found the publishing details... however without the proper text, they'll be useless.

And I need the English translation, not any other. No need to look

Dakujem :)

Importing isn't a solution for me... besides, I'm a bit against spending 12 pounds only to use 3 lines of text.

Thanks though.

While I couldn't find anything with a quick search, you might want to try various e-book websites if you haven't done so by now.

It's not there.... What's more, I found only 1 site which has a tiny eensy weensy quote from the story... and it's not the one I need.... damn.

Ehm. Finding it might be difficult.

I did a very thorough search on.. alternative.. places used to acquire items of similar type. Took me half an hour, not even one hit.

However, tomorrow, i'll run by a few libraries i have near me. Two of them have a large collection of rare books, so perhaps, i'll find it there.

You should check the American Bookstore, Empik or Traffic if you live in Warsaw.

If you don't, try the sołtys' bookrack

Well, i had a look in three separate libraries, and two local empik's.. no luck. Sorry dude, but that book in it's English translation is rare stuff :?

Hope you'll be able to find it yourself in one of the places Wooz mentioned.

There's also a pretty big English-speaking bookstore in Konstancin-Jeziorna, in the Stara Papiernia mini-mall. Actually, it's the biggest English-speaking bookstore in Warsaw I've seen so far. Might well be worth the 710 bus trip if you urgently need the book.

If you still have no luck, there should be a way to ask for american bookstore locations at both the British and Murkin embassies and high-schools.
