Increasing max stats for FO1/2

Mandelbrot

First time out of the vault
Now that we have the ssl codes, is it possible to increase the maximum number of attributes and skill points that a character can have.......say to 2000 (just like you can do in FOT  ) This has no obvious practical purpose other than it's fun to run around really fast with no armor and punch people to watch them explode.

We have had the SSL codes since the official mapper/editor was released. This does not help with limitations of the engine which cap the maximum amounts of skills and traits. Nothing is different now, we just have some better compilers and a decompiler that outputs SSL format.

Well that is sad news indeed! Why do they feel the need to hard code things. A game company should just create an engine that is completely customizable and let us all create the games we want to create. It would be a new era of game creation.

To produce a working, playable game?

Fallout is designed as a traditional pen and paper RPG ruleset. It uses formulas and tables designed for a certain range of stat and skill values. It's completely nonsensical to demand that they should produce different and meaningful results if you raise those stats to 20, 100 or a million. You can already make an invincible character, what more do you need?

Complete and utter chaos... That's fun and exciting in a game. To be able to create a character that just is god like is a very fun thing for me to do in my spare time..... In tactics it's so much fun to raise every recruits skills to 2000. (once the skills are that high of course you don't need to worry about your stats. Or just for fun you can raise your stats to 2000 or 20000, your characters just wiz around in sneak mode and punch other characters into oblivion. It looks alot like a monty python sketch. Six character in full attack mode all running in a group from enemy to enemy.

I always play games through the first time, normally and how it's supposed to be played. But then I just want to mess around with it.

Things I have never figured out how to do in tactics.
link things together, like keys and doors
create dialog. (and no I'm not going to read things on how to do it. It's much more fun to just mess around with)
But I can successfully create a map, teams, and units, and original entities for those maps.
So I basically can make a map where a character spawns in and fights things...........the end.

So I just like modding equipment to mess with things. I don't think I ever plan on creating a successful mod. (although I would love to have enough money to produce my own game) Now that's where the fun is.

You could just use a fallout character editor to give your player 10 in each of his stats and 200% in each of his skill and then add every perk in the game and add experience etc....

I've already done that......many, many times. I guess it's more fun in tactics to have an uber character. Nothing really matters in it. It's a small, linear strategy game. You can't choose to be evil or good or what side to fight for. soooooooo...... I guess I can live with the fallout 1/2 uber character. I haven't played them in quite awhile. Just recently reloaded them when I started playing the AWAKEN mod. It made me want to play the other fallouts. It's strange to look at them. I remember them being graphical masterpieces and now they don't look so hot. It's hard to believe that graphics have come such a long way in such a short amount of time. Just wait another ten years. Geez I can't imagine what games will look like when i'm 80 years old. Bunch of old geezers in a retirement home playing some sort of virtual reality game where they think they are younger guys chatting on some forum for fallout............................ uh oh!

There is a mod in the testing phase that will enable 800x600 resolution, it is capable of running at higher resolutions as well, but 800x600 is probably the best.

I tried that and that seemed even more strange....... because you could see where everything just ended.. 1024 by 768 was very strange indeed............ the actual game looked good. But the outside borders.....it was like playing a game in a box. I guess given time your brain would come around and ignore the outside areas. If Betheseda...when betheseda comes out with 3 I hope it has a fantastic editor to go along with it. Morrowind's editor seemed to work pretty well but it was hard to get used to.
