First time out of the vault
Hey guys, been a lurker here for a bit, have always loved the fallout series and finally came across the original 3 games (fallout, fallout 2 and fallout: tactics) on ebay so I bought them

Anyway's I am running windows 7 and Tactics runs perfect, fallout one is fine now (thanks to Fallout FIXT) and Fallout 2 is giving me issues.

I downloaded the Unofficial Fallout 2 patch, and gameplay is fine, just the colors are messed up. I read to open the ddraw.ini and change the settings. HOWEVER for whatever reason, when I open ddraw.ini it opens in notepad and I can not make any changes to it.

Any help to remedy this??

Thanks in advance!!

I don't know the mod so this is just speculation, but INI files are simple text files and open up like any text document in any text editor, notepad should work fine. Maybe you have it set to read only?

Make sure to make a copy of the file so that you have a default to revert back to if the settings you change don't work out

I tried that, and I just checked my properties, its not read only, when I try to save it just tells me that access is denied

Do you have the fallout folder in Program Files? Windows 7 doesn't allow any messing around in there by default and it's a pain messing with special permissions to allow it to.

Yeah, I wouldn't install in Program Files if you can help it, with Windows 7 anyway.

So should I uninstall and reinstall into program files x86? That is where I have fallout and I have no issues

I'd just copy the fallout folder itself into the C drive or on the desktop.

Or if you aren't comfortable with that and don't mind starting over, manual installs are your friend
