First time out of the vault
Hi!
I have played and finished Fallout Tactics before, and now I want to play it again, but I have a problem when installing. Installation stops everytime....with no error message or anything, just freezes! and always on the same file....(on the first cd, if I choose full installation...it stops on 7%) I don't know why, cd is not scratched or damaged....I can copy all the files to hd normally....I even tryed to make an ISO image from cd...and mount it on virutal drive (deamon tools) but it happends again!!! Im using win xp pro on amd athlon xp 1800+, 520mb DDR, Starforce 817....
Can anyone help me??? :(

Ok, here is the answer for your question... I got this problem some time ago, and this is because the main CAB file in the CD 1 is corrupted... try record the CD 1 againwith another program to see...
First Time I recorded with nero...
Second Time I used Clone cd and it worked!

I have the same problem installing fallout tactics. Do you have Norton Anti-virus 2004 pro installed on your pc? This version of Norton is very aggressive because I heard that some of the latest viruses uses the same script as old games does (like fallout) or something like that...

Anyway, Norton stops my installation so I have to disable it and enable it again after my installation is complete.

7% Install Error

Hi, i fairly certain someone has brought this problem up before, but after searching the forums i still haven't found anything solid in the way of a fix for it. anyway - my problem. i decided to play tactics again and so tried installing it, from original undamaged cds before anyone asks, and every time it dies once it gets to 7% on the file titles_0.bos on cd1. i have installed the game from these cds before without any problems so im assuming my issue must be something else. im running windows XP Pro, P4 2.4ghz 1024mb ram, ati radeon 9700, directx 9.0c. any suggestions as to why it keeps dying would be really helpful and if any further info is required don't hesitate to ask. Thanks

You're in the same boat as me. Good luck finding any help from the people here. What I tried (but didnt work for me, might work for you) was make an image of each cd then extract the image with isobuster. Run the setup file from the CD1 image then direct it to the image for disc 2 then 3 then back to disc 1 when prompted. It installed fine for me this way, but I just cant run the game when I try. Maybe it is because I installed it on my slave drive...I don't know. But I hope this helps you.

thanks for the tip, but yeah, didnt work. its still dies during installation. the cd isnt damaged in any way yet xp has a problem reading it for some reason. i even got a different "backup" copy from a friend and it has the same problem. (sigh) probably not much chance of fixing this now that the game isnt supported anymore. oh well

well the other solutions ive heard of were using cdmage to repair the corrupted sections of the disc. But Ive tried using CDmage and it wont even give me the option to scan for any corruption at all. You can still find patches for the game but as far as I know (and I've never bothered searching any further than here anyway so that may be why) this is the only place you can turn to for "support" with the fallout games.

I had the same exact problem as you did with the 7% thing. What I did to get past that was click cancel installation, then say "no" when it prompts you to really cancel installation. After I said no it asked me for the second disc. It worked all the way until 99% then it shut down. There is a solution I guarantee it as many other people have had the same problem as us (It's windows XP I swear and they should be able to fix it but probably wont since it is in low demand as an older game)

Anyway, if I find something out to fix this I'll definately let you know. Good luck.

Do you use a fragmented hard drive? If you do, check the space left in the unit you have your OS installed, then if there is little space, you'll have to free some, regardless of the unit you are installing the game in.

Example: If your OS (Windows or other) is installed in C: and you are installing the game in D:, save some disc space in C:.

This is because your OS needs some space to storage some data about the game or program you are installing.

latest norton is very agressive

I have the same problem before, fot freezing around 10 percent of my installation. I dont know you if have the same problem but I fixed this by disabling my norton antivirus 2004 pro during the installation and putting back on when im done installing.

I have the last mission curruption thing and cant do the cdmage trick because of my crappy cdburner. Now I have a dvdburber I decided to give it another go.
