Installing Fallout 1 1.2 patch breaks the game.

Sumguy21

First time out of the vault
I install TeamX's semi-official Fallout 1 1.2 patch.
I start a new game and hit a rat.
Instead of it saying "Rat takes .... damage" it just says "."
The game soon crashes.

This is odd.

I followed up by installing the 1.3 patch. Yet it still persists. Why? How do I fix?

It seems to only be happening to what I believe is the US version of the game. My friend's copy of the international version works fine, which is odd because I thought the point of 1.2 was to patch the US version to include fixes the international didn't have.

So I guess now I have to ask if there's any difference between the international version and the US version? Any censorship that will cause me to miss stuff?

May be you're a "lucky" owner of an early release. In this case patch 1.2 brings more bugs than fixes. Do not install it. Wait for a new pach version, which will support all the early Fallout1 releases. Hopefully. :)

Try this release candidate. This patch is trying to update any english Fallout1 version to latest possible 1.2 version. Note, that there are a bunch of different 1.0 releases, as well as 1.2 releases! This patch tries to unify them all. Patch also includes "children fix" for european releases. This patch does not include fixes for several "broken" versions, which are avaliable for downloading through the Internet. And this patch is for windows version only!

Note to all: you don't need to download and install this patch if your Fallout vesion release date is US 1.0 Sep 29 1997 or later (can be determined through the readme file). But this patch is candidate for "universal english 1.2 patch" and if you have time, you may as well install and test it.
