Interactive inventory items question

How do the items such as learning books or a radio (in Fallout 1) work? Is a special script attached to them which fires when you press the Use action?
 
I think books are hardcodet, not sure though. In any case it's not hard to script something like that.

The radio in Fallout 1 has a script attached, that opens a dialog when you use it. Thats easy to recreate. I think it only needs the dialog opening stuff in the "use_p_proc" procedure and that's it.
