Interplay News Update

Corith, a former Interplay employee, has updated this thread on our forums about Herve's latest antics.<blockquote>After over 5 months of being kept in a odd kind of limbo, Herve and his handfull of hand-picked drones have finally managed to send out notices of temrination to the former members of this once proud game publisher.

Sadly, he is now refusing to pay acrued vacation money. I guess it means more lawsuits. The court date for the post mortum stealth change from salary to wage hasn't even been set yet, and here is more litiigation for him.</blockquote>Apparently Herve will never learn, though he continues to waste everyone's time with his behavior.

So is this finally the unofficial official death of Interplay?

Thanks for the heads up, Corith.

It blows my mind how Hervie has taken the company up just high enough to slam it completely down in the dumps. He's going to smoke a turd in hell for everything and everyone he's wronged. Keep an eye out for a crazed lunatic aimlessly wandering the streets of California ranting about "still being the proud owner of a well respected company," and if you see one, kick him good... kick him real good.

Technically there should have been a check in that termination letter and since there was not they are indeed opening themselves up to yet another lawsuit. At the same time getting the money that is owed will be like trying to squeeze blood from a rock.

Just out of curiosity, what is your background/history with regards to Interplay?

Ahh, sorry about that SumsoluS, I forgot to clarify. I meant kick him, with a cement truck. What a pecker. Herve is a retard...there must be hundreds of people with their eyes on his actions just WAITING for him to fuck it all up some more, and he keeps doing it. Its like he runs full speed into a brick wall, falls back, and gets right back up again to run in to it some more. What a schmuck.

One can only wonder what potential investors might be thinking watching all this.

Who would give this man even more money when he mismanaged the company from when it was doing well. I mean, come on, he had his chance. Interplay had a assets, inventory, staff, and the stock was at a decent price, not .015 per share.

We all know the state of Interplay now. Who in their right mind would let the same management team, i.e. Herve, have even more money to throw away when their track record is so horrible.

Watching a CEO rack up more and more lawsuits can not be good in the eyes of those who would be so deluded as to give him money.

Actually the company was not doing well when he took the helm and hadn't been for some time. There were some bright spots, but the company has a long history of operational losses. His crime is not being able solve the company's problems, and perhaps even contributing to them.

I'm not sticking up for the guy, I'm just saying the company was not in great shape to begin with.

Agreed, the company could have been run better before him, but that was mainly when the company went public, and most video game company investors are about as hopelessly retarded as Fifi. Money is what matters, and these are people who have never picked up a game, they are just hoping to cash in on a hopeless trend-chasing idea. I am sure by now he's fooled someone more stupid than himself into believing FOOL would be a good idea.

So instead of just being funded and having a bit of operational interest, one of the aforementioned clueless investors was put in charge and in fact bullied out a CEO that had at least some idea of what video games should be about (arguably, of course - Fargo seems to have caught Warren Spector's stupidity disease at times, sorry Jess). After that, Fifi not only fucks over Interplay, he does the same for Titus and his other companies. While Interplay was hit and miss before then, Interplay went to suckling firmly upon BioWare's teat until that went tits up, as did every other valuable franchise that Herve could have used, if the moron could only have figured out that he should have left design interest in the hands of those a little more capable.

That is where his ego got in the way and still continues to be a problem for those he proves he's not even good at business with. He sucks as a CEO, he sucks as an employer, the man simply doesn't seem to have any purpose for living aside from being an example for Atari's Bruno Bonnel to try and look better in comparison to him.

Well, since they went public Fargo never had a profitable quarter, nor did he have a single quarter with positive cash flow - at least not until long after Caen came onboard and Phil A started dismantling the company wholesale to the highest bidder. Of the many bad moves Fargo made (not the least of which include IPLY Sports, and the beautiful Virgin Interactive deal), was his decision to "pass" on DOOM, since he thought the game didn't nearly have the same potential as the IPLY developed "Descent".

Agreed. Corith, if you haven't already read Burgerbill's article, it's worth a few minutes of your time...

Roadkill and burgerbill were both there in the old days, i`m pointing this out in case someone doesn`t know that.

Oh and <3 Capelworth

I'm not quite sure what the <3 means, but I'm hoping it's something good. :D It's good to see you still active and feeding news items to the Fallout/gaming communities, Briosafreak.

I've been fairly busy this year, but I do visit this and a couple of other message boards on occasion. I just don't post much these days.

Oh, and for those who weren't frequent visitors to the old Interplay boards, Decamber (Dec) is a former Interplayer as well. He worked fairly closely with Corith and Krazikatt if I'm not mistaken. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, Decamber.)

<3 is supposed to resemble a heart (on it's side). It means he wants to consume your heart. Or possibly something else.

How many other Ex-IPLY employees do we have here?

I have read these, What I meant by doing well, is a relative comparson to how Interplay is doing now. Granted, once IPLY went public it started to slide, but when Herve took over, he had devopers on site; a QA team; marketing people,; a building; games in concept; games in test; games ready for reproduction. He had all he needed at his fingertips, yet his own arrogance not only failed to prevent Interplay's slide, but hastened it along.

He had the chance to create Fallout 3 yet he fired the development team after they created a demo that could have been used to attract investors; he held BOS back so it would not be on store shelves for xmas 2003 nor was anything else; he forced BOS and DA2, games with identical engines, to hit consumers at the same time; he stiffed employes on payroll and benefits; he is trying to duck out paying taxes; he burned Interplay's corporate branding instead of captializing on it; the list goes on and on. My point is that Herve squandered the assets of Interplay, what moron would give him money to repeat his mistakes.

Yuppers.

I wrote the C#, ASP, javascript, and SQL code. Dec did a great job managing the hardware and servers, and Krazikatt maintained the HTML portion of IPLY web pages.

For those who remember the old silver and blue web site, I also wrote those DHTML sliding menus, the jigsaw puzzle applet, and the battleship mini-game. And, as a professional writer (one paid for their services) I was also asked to be the contest judge for all the wonderful fantasy fiction that fans sent in.
