CVG says, that the game "Heist" has been cancelled by Codemasters. It was developed by inXile entertainment, which made the last Bards Tale and is most probably working on a new Wasteland title, etc. etc...

UK publisher Codemasters has cancelled action title Heist, CVG can reveal.

The firm told CVG today that it had 'terminated Heist as a project' - and that it was fully focused on 'high quality titles'.

Criminal action title Heist was developed by inXile Entertainment and was set to be published for PC, 360 and PS3. Its story was set in San Francisco, California, circa 1969.

The decision comes after a stellar six months for Codemasters, with games such as Ashes Cricket 2009, DIRT 2, Operation Flashpoint 2 and F1 (Wii and PSP) giving it an enviable Metacritic average in 2009.

"After a much extended development period, Heist has been terminated as a project and removed from our release schedule," a Codemasters spokesperson told CVG.

"Codemasters is focusing its future portfolio on high quality titles that will, in the majority, be developed and produced by our internal studios."

CVG understands that the firm is lining up announcements for some truly huge games in the next few months - and we'll be sure to let you know about them when they land.

I never cared much about Heist, in fact, I never got much input about it anyway. But Fargo's inXile was working on it, so... it's somehow not cool.

Opinions?

Yeah, didn't care much about this game, and there really wasn't much out there on it.

It makes me wonder how a small company like inXile is still around. How are they making money? They don't really make too many games, most of which are cell phone/web games. Their biggest release, Bard's Tale, wasn't great. But somehow they're still going.

Well, this certainly gives them a chance to focus more on creating that supposed Wasteland RPG.

I was 99.9% sure that it would get cancelled. I was always curious what inXile where up to. After i saw that the game didn't receive any updates i was pretty sure it was dead. I am also sure that inXile is breathing it's final breaths. They haven't done anything worth mentioning in the past few years.

Saw that one coming. Years ago. inXile have neither the resources nor the experience to pull off a sandbox driving game, let alone one that can compete with GTA. Even if they had magically managed to get something out the door, it would have probably supplanted Driv3r as the Superman 64 of driving games.
